I am trying to remember the sequence, as well as tips/tricks to minimize scratched to the center console and side panels. Do the side panels go in first then te console? Or other way around? And what tricks do y'all use to prevent scratches?
I believe the console goes in first (at least that's the way I did it). The radio side panels can be mounted/dismounted any time.
Be very careful when you slide the clips on the console past the lower ends of your dash pads where they meet the trans tunnel (see pic). Mine had been damaged by an earlier owner somewhere in its lifetime. Perhaps somewhere down the road I'll use it as an excuse to get new dash pads. Tape or otherwise protect those areas of your dash pads to protect them from being sliced by those sharp clips. One possibility would be to cut some plastic squares from a milk jug and make yourself some shields for those areas.

If you're putting it together, the console goes in first, then the side covers. You can use a couple of old credit cards or something similar to stop the radio side panel support clips from chewing up the bottoms of the dash pads when you slide the console in. Having the gearshift lever out or at least in 2nd or 4th with the **** off helps. A piece of electrical tape over the top corner of the side covers will minimize scratches where you have to slide them up a bit before you can pull them down to screw them on. If that last bit sounds confusing, it'll make sense when you put the side covers on.
