That is true...and often the kickdown linkage is made from "unobtanium".
I have gradually seen the vintage Mustang crowd embrace automatics as they age and the knees go out. Personally, I may sell my cars if it gets to that point - purely a personal thing though.
I am still old school-love shifting gears. Real sport cars have manual trannies.
But my statement is probably a faint cry in the forest. Most cars today have automatics. I like both manuals and automatics.

I see you pulled your post. While we don't mean to offend or embarrass and we're all here to help one another many of us like to joke around. As a new member, my suggestion to you is not to take things personal and don't be too thin skinned. Everyone is here to advise or be (usually in my case) advised but we also like to have a bit of fun in the process.

Gary
Understood, Gary. I didn't pull it because of thin skin (I enjoy ball-busting as much as the next guy). I pulled it because I wrote it last night after about ten beers and when I read it this morning I thought it sounded like… well, like something somebody writes after ten beers. I enjoy the Forum and your posts.
So, if it roars through its throat and you are a half second slow in the upshift and one of your pistons launches out of the case and up through your pretty blue hood, we better not hear you cursing your corvette that you love! It's all on you pal...
I have every nut and bolt and all you need to put a totally correct PowerGlide in a C2 if anyone is interested.

K (10 beers)
Funny thing about it I understood everything he was saying .
I have been there just left car show when on the way home in the country a 32 ford coup pulled up next to me at a light ,no one around.
I was in my 4 speed SWC 340 ,Came off light hard shifted into second gear had him by 1/2 fender, pushed up 2nd gear hard still kept the 1/2 fender, slammed 3rd ,he knew he couldn't over take me he hit the Nitrous and flew out in fount sideways I had to let off it what a cop out.
I don't need that for my motor just asking for trouble, Thanks for sticking up for the power guild crew.

I'm enjoying a margie.
There was nothing new to learn when this thread died 4 years ago, and nothing new to learn now. But, whatever! Any excuse to mess around on the corvette blog works for me!
leaving for the NCRS National convention tomorrow, and looking forward to saying hi to many corvette friends from around the country, viewing some beautiful mid year cars, and enjoying some great Kansas City BBQ, see some of you peeps there....
We're being told not to miss Arthur Bryant's BBQ, none better in KC, but will look up Gates too.
and yes, that would be my Margarita...

Don: I think "Gates" is the big bbq chain in K.C., but there are a ton of other little places all over that city that are excellent. Enjoy the convention. Looking forward to hearing about it. Also, enjoy your "margie." Margarita?
Because Powerglides are almost indestructible, they have long been the PREFERRED trans for some drag racing classes. I imagine the supply of aluminum C2 Corvette automatics is shrinking daily, so prices may be high for a good one?
The racer that built my 388 SBC traded me straight actoss for a Turbo 350 in my '64, and it's not as good as the P/G IMO. That trans was still going strong at 250,000 original miles from new.
IMHO a mellow sounding exhaust system and a good manual transmission sounds soooooo sweet, from when clutch's engaged to hearing the rpm's drop when letting clutch out at a traffic light, as exhaust tones change instantly to lower sound just for a second or two until the rpm's pick up producing a sweet mellow rumble followed by slight dip in rpm's followed by a shift into second followed again into third producing a higher tone, same for forth etc.
It's an awesome experience (no other sounds needed, no stereo, no wife or girlfriend), just you and your machine. Repeat couple hundred times and welcome to euphoria.... Ya just can't imitate that unique correlation of sounds from an automatic I don't care who you are, or how hard you try....

Just my two cents.
