Making good progress. That looks like the same Harbor Freight furniture dollie that I bought to set my engine and cradle on. I've seen several of them in use for engine storage purpose. Be sure to store your fan thermostatic clutch in an upright position. Sometimes the silicon inside will leak out if laid flat. Don't know why it happens but it does.
OK guys, I'm almost ready to start striping paint from my block. Question is, what have ya'll done successfully? I do not want to bead or sand blast for fear of getting media inside the block. Maybe a wire wheel and paint remover? Looking for solid ways to get this thing ready for paint. Also, I plan to use Eastwood high temp catalyzed paint. Should I prime first and with what type of primer?
I will give the CRC brakekleen a try to get to all the tough spots. I of course have to make sure that all the oily parts are gone before I paint. I plan to pull the heads in the morning as I would kick myself if I didn't through some new head gaskets in while I'm there. Should make the clean up a little easier too in those tough little spots.
Thanks allot Robert. I keep adding more photos at http://www.myvintagecorvette.com/engine
if you want to see the progress. I hope to be painting the block by this weekend. I need to dig up a heater for the garage first ! See ya buddy
A little update for those who have been following this. The block will get paint this weekend and then the re-assembly starts on the motor. Tranny is next, then engine bay..

Great progress!
A heater for the garage is a good idea. I think just about everyone in the east is getting hit with this wave of cold air. AT least we are not getting the snow along with it!
I remember raiding the kitchen pantry for all those plastic sandwich bags!
Keep the pics coming.

I am going to pick up a 125000 BTU Propane heater today so I have a nice cozy garage to paint in Saturday. I am using Eastwood's catalyzed enamel on the block/heads/etc. so I need 70 degrees to do it right. I have used this paint before with outstanding results.
Getting a little color on the block today finally. This is the first coat so far. Using Eastwood paint with the hardener. So far it's going great, I like this paint... More to come
Looks good Mike you will have that back up and going befor you know it man... If you do as good on under the hood as this motor it going to look like new....

Thanks Robert. I hope to have it all done and back on the road by March. I have allot of work to do inside the engine bay and also a frontend I am going to rebuild. This winter it's doors forward, next winter, doors back. The paint and interior are okay for now so I will be holding off on that for now...
