Did you clean the crank snout up? I know you said you were going to, but if you did not, you might have knocked all of that paint into the oil pan when you installed the balancer. Just checking.

I absolutely cleaned the front crank shaft as I said I would.

Hey Robert, Well the motor is finished and I am in the process of going through the trans now. Once I have that done and bolted back on I will move on to the front-end rebuild and engine bay cleanup and paint. I hope to be hanging the motor back in by Feb... So far I am very happy with the results. I do need to replace all the ignition shielding as mine is just looking too bad for me. I see where I can order a full set from Long Island for around 500 bucks. Hoping someone on the forum has a set they ordered and decided not to use that I can buy...
Looks better than it came from the factory friend. I know you will be happy with her when you are done...... We will have to hit the 1st car show when warm weather comes.. Have too man...

Thanks bro. Might try and have it ready for the big GoodGuys show at TN state fairgrounds in March...
The can of worms has opened a little more now, 3rd gear is almost gone so it's a full rebuild on the trans. Oh well, to be expected I suppose. I'm sure there will be more before the engine makes it's way back in.
But while the engine is out, might as well take the front suspension apart while you're at it, and strip, clean, and paint the front section of the frame while you're at it, and now everything you've done looks so good, and now the remainder of the frame would look so good while you're at it.......
I've got my last 2 additions on jack stands now, while I should be driving them.
Keep us posted, Buddy
Jeff, you were right! Frontend parts on the way now :o) Body is staying on for real ...

time to check the gas pedal mount and bushings....now is the time!!
i just love to pile on....
from the pics it seems your bell dowels could be driven a little more aft or it could be my lyin' eyes
glad you are using intake bolts for the r&r...i would not trust the stock carb studs for a mounting plate....smart man
everything looks super, ready to judge after some more sweat equity...

Thanks, I will take a look at that. The Bell dowels are fine and the bell is back on the engine now waiting for the tranny which is getting a nice rebuild at the moment. New Clutch, PP, and TB are hiding behind that bell now...
Here are some updated pictures but you will have to be patient as they take a minute to load...

Looking great on the PEP project, Mike. . . Tranny rebuild? .. I'm sure you'll be disappointed not having to wrassle it out of the chassis at some later date. ..
As a point of information what parts were worn? .. 3rd gear itself, sliders, cluster, main shaft gear(s)? . .

Well not being a transmission guy I am relying on the advise of my friend and professional tranny guy. He showed me the worn rings right next to the brass looking syncros and pointed out the worn parts. He did say the main shaft looked good so I would not need to re-bush the case. When he showed me what the parts should look like compared to what I had it was then obvious to me. 250.00 + parts seemed fair so I told him to go for it. That will be new bearings, and replace the work gears, seals, etc... It will be good to know it's all like new and I can put all that to rest...

FWIW, a buddy of mine and I rebuilt the 67 Muncie wide ratio in my 56 Chevy hot rod last winter.
I ordered the entire kit, including both sliders and paid about $250.00 for the parts. Bought the kit from a trans rebuilding place off the Intenet. Place was in Washington state.
$250.00 is a very fair labor cost to do the job, IMHO. It took us several hours to disassemble the trans. Then, I got the clean up chores to degrease, and then glass bead and paint the case, etc. That was MANY hours more work.
Took us another several hours to reassemble it.
Also, if you can find a skilled aluminum welder, that tail stock might be able to be TIG welded and detail ground so the repair is not detectable.
