I have a small block 65 Coupe, and I am considering side pipes. Any issues to consider - rattles, excessive noise, heat? Any installation issues to consider? Also, where is the best place to purchase high quality pipes.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jerry

Rattles you shouldn't be able to hear so much.
You/installer will have to cut on the body where they exit out the side.
DO not plug the holes in the exhaust panel...buy a repop and keep the original in case you decide to go back.
ride in a coupe with side pipes. make sure the ride is on a road were you stay the same RPM for about 10 miles have the windows cracked and the radio on. report back

Do you original exhaust manifolds ? If you do the install will only take
about 1-1/2 hours. When I went to the last Car Show, a Cobra parked next to me. He left before me but when I started my Vett everyone said now that is what a Vett should sound like
I've had two Corvettes with sidepipes. For short drives, they are okay. Anything more, they're annoying. My Cobra has sidepipes that are louder than any Corvette system. Sounds great but it attracts too much attention, both good and bad. I prefer to keep a lower profile but Cobras have to have side exhaust.
In addition you have to deal with the brackets that support your present rocker covers. Most people cut them off but once they're cut it's probably the end of them. I converted mine to sidepipes about 6 years ago. I have stainless steel pipes fabed into Sanderson block hugger headers on a zz383. They are loud. But I love the sound. I can set off car alarms with ease. Good idea to ride in a pipe car first though.

They are loud. That can be good, but driving over 20,000 miles this summer , and having the pleasure to ride in many side pipe cars, I can not imagine 5 to 8 hour rides in such a car.
You neighbors and the local police will notice you more than corvette fans.
Got to give you my up close sound at idle like Hitch and Claysmoker. My side pipe setup GNM Sweet Thunder (Gives No Mercy) sounds like an off-shore raceboat LOL! To me, they're not loud...that sweet sound just puts a grin on my face. Those videos of Donny blastin' down the track as well as Claysmoker going through the gears are great.
I have to say though, they'll beat you up on a long haul. To keep peace in my home, I keep a set of earplugs in the glovebox for my better half :
Here's a link to her at idle, just after a cold startup. ENJOY!!
