Hi
I just bought a aftermarket quartz replacement clock and I'd like to replace the old clock myself. However taking out the entire dash seems over my head.
Any ideas on how I can do this in a simple way? Take out the glove box maybe? If anyone has the steps on how to do this I would appreciate it. Just bought my '66 and I'd rather not pay someone else to do this.
1) Remove glove box liner
2) Reach behind clock and disconnect 1 "L" shaped wire connector, and 2 bulbs
3) Find 2 spring loaded clips and press them towards the back of the clock and slide them off the post on which they are fastened
4) Pull the clock out of the dash
To remove the liner you will need to take out the 9 screws that are on the horizontal surface in addition to two for the striker plate and the light bulb assembly. The screws that you see on the vertical surface ( facing you) do not need to be removed. They are for removing the whole glove box.

Hmm I wondered why my clock was loose, I had two prongs hanging through the holes but nothing to secure the clock into the dash. So I guess I am on the hunt for these Spring clips? Anyone got 2 hanging around?

Or just remove the entire box by removing the four screws on the bottom and the ones facing you on the parameter of the box. Just the way I do it not to fight with the door and possibly scratch the paint or the stainless.

after you remove the bulb and wire to the light assembly.
Hi,
You should be able to remove and reinstall the clock without removing the glovebox. I just had my clock serviced with an NOS mechanical movement. Remove the radio panels on both sides of the center console. Although it is a little tight, you will have enough room to disconnect the two clips that secure the clock to the dash. Carefully pull the clock out part way, disconnect the power wire and two light bulbs from the clock casing, and you will be holding the clock in your hand. Once you service the clock, put it back in the same way and screw on the radio panels. Takes about 10 minutes to remove and 10 minutes to reinstall.
