I've got emblems installed with the double back emblem tape you can buy at any
auto parts store. They were installed about 6 months after a new paint job. I
want to remove a couple and I've heard there is a product that will do this safely.
Do not know what it is and I'm fearful of messing up the paint. Anyone know of a
product that safely removes them without harming paint? Does it work? Thanks
The only method I'm familiar with is careful application of heat with a heat gun or hair dryer until you can gently pry/peel them off the surface, then clean up the residue with 3M Adhesive Remover.
Last time I used 3M vinyl trim adhesive remover (a number of years ago) it carried a warning not to use on "recent" paint, or any year old lacquer paint. Don't know that it the same formula, but be sure to check. For non-catalized enamel paint I don't think 6 months is considered "old" paint.
I removed one using Coca-Cola. Keep pouring it on. Let sit for 5 minutes. Take off. Quickly wash, polish and wax. I did this on a car that I did not care for. I would do it to my vette as the paint is old, but if the paint is new, I would not advise.
WD40 is an excellent adheisive remover. Let it soak for a minute or two and it will wipe right off. It is such a mild product that will probably not hurt the paint, but test it on a less obvious area first.
