Default what does this mean?

I am interested in making an offer for this car, the asking price is more then my wife will let me spend without having to buy her a new kitchen.

The add says it is a 1971 454 OK, but then it says solid-lifter. Are solid lifters a good thing? I would like to know before I see the car Please let me know.

The link won't work if you just type it in. I'm not sure of the correct way, but someone will explain it. Dennis

You SHOULD set them once or twice a year. That's o-k if you like to tinker and have some tools. It's not really difficult though.

You'd better get to the back of the line that's headed "More Info On
'71 BB Corvettes" and do the homework or your wife is going to end up with kitchen AND a pool.

The only solid lifter big block available in 71 was the LS6 454/425 and they only made 188 of them. If that's what it is (I couldn't find the listing), they are expensive and very collectible. Adjusting the lifters periodically is no big deal.

OK it's a 67 with a 71 motor. It's highly unlikely it's an LS6 71 motor, but you never know. If it was a real LS6 with a VIN derivative that motor would be worth alot of money to the owner of the car that it came from.

You have 12 replies in your inquiry on this car in the "for sale" section, but you're still hot to buy this one I guess.........why not just spring for the new kitchen, then she can't complain when you go ahead and buy it?

Someone once posted, it's easier to as ask for forgiveness then it is to ask for permission, this worked once when I bought my 05 and again when I got my motorcycle license and bought a bike, but will it work a third time??

You think I should continue looking for a C-2? Too many questions with the car and the seller?

Buy her the kitchen, now that you have put it on line, there will be a buyer before you can find your ***** to buy it.

Next time you find one, don't advertise it and buy it, it will be your turn (as long as she doesn't need a dining room set.)

Before you lay a chunk of change for a old car you might want to educate your self of the said car. Learn what things are. This forum will always be here to answer questions. But you should never buy a car without knowing your self the simple things. Buy some books do some reading

$75K seems kind of steep for a NOM Car....

What are your MUST haves? I think you could get a very nice Small Block C2 Vert for mid $50s money.
Check out my Thread here

Here is a Maroon Vert in our own Classifieds for $44

If you need to adjust the valves twice a year on a solid lifter car, you are driving it 30-40,000 miles a year. The way these cars are driven, more like need an adjustment check once every 15 years.

Now that is funny. But also mostly true.

Most solid lifter engines are designed for running higher RPM, when you exceed 6,000 RPM the hydraulic lifters will normally start floating and power falls off. Solid lifter engines can rev much higher allowing them to make much more horse power if all the components match the camshaft. Engines designed to run at the very high RPM range will normally have a rough idle and low vacuum at idle.
All the Fuel Injected and 365 HP 327 engines were solid lifter and would wind up really nice to high RPM's.
At idle you can always here solid lifters tapping lightly while the engine runs.
Never hear it off idle.

Been 10 years since I adjusted the lifters on my 327/360.

I would be concerned a bit about the AC. The solid lifter 435hp engine didn't offer AC and didn't cool well in traffic even without AC.

Or maybe the 454 in the car isn't really a solid lifter?
