My next '67 will have them just like my last '67. The look, the sound, it's all smiles.....

I'll go with the minority here. Proper installation can make all the difference in the world. Make sure they are done right. I've had two midyears with them. One was factory installed and I never had a problem with it. The other was installed by the previous owner. It had so many rattles that I could barely hear the pipes! I couldn't wait to rip them off. i'm also not a big fan of the look. I think they ruin the sleek look of the body. I currently have another car without the side pipes. I enjoy it much better.

As others have said, drive one before you commit to side pipes. If you like it then go for it!

Other reasons for or against aside, I prefer the sleeker look of undercar exhaust.

Like the side view with pipes but the "butt view" is missing something with no tailpipes and bezels.
Forgive the pun.
Sooo...too loud for me.
I am voting No pipes.
Cheers

If I could order my 66 BB today, I probably would order with undercar exhaust. A combination of aftermarked 2-1/2 inch pipes, high compression, bigger cam and 4.11 gear put them a bit over the top. BUT - they are classic Corvette and for most short drives I have to admit that the fact people hear me before they see me is awesome. Idling out of the neighborhood before the engine has completely warmed up brings people outside to see me roll past.

I have had 2 1/2" undercar pipes for decades and never noticed any heat. If YOU do, there's always Dynamat! Besides making a car run slower (small connector pipes between exhaust manifolds and the side pipes AIR), they are not recommended for slalom/gymkhana events because they tend to blow cones over for points deductions!

IMHO... I like the look of side pipes on a Mid-Year convertible, but not on a Mid-Year coupe.

I was very reluctant to install side pipes on my car, mainly modifying because it is 64. I am very pleased, love it, the car fits me better if that makes any sense. I dont have a problem with noise but I was told the oem pipes were the quietest. I dont care if i lost 10hp! Going through the gears shifting at 4k is the coolest sound! Wheels are to give it a different look for a while, love my KOs

Doesn't even have to be one of the originals to make sweet music thru the side pipes. There is nothing on this planet that sounds as good to my ears as these:

OK, I can agree with that. In fact, any serious racing Corvette can & should have side pipes. Also, this one gets a pass as well:

But other than that, I still don't like 'em. I think the car looks 100% better without them. Again, just my opinion.

To me the biggest Con is having to cut the braces off of the body. not easily reversed.

Couple of thoughts from someone who has lived with his for 49 years and 100,000 plus miles.

The engine, they are connected to, will affect the noise/music level. The 427/390 (that I once had) was quieter than my 427/435 is (something about the exhaust valve opening earlier on the 435). The sound never bothered me but my wife complained a little (she spent a lot of time in the passenger seat as it was our "good" car for 5 years). We were both a lot younger then.

While looks is in the beholder's eye, they add real character to the car in MHO. And the sound is awesome!!!!

I wouldn't by a midyear without them. They look like they were made for the car. Without, the car looks bare-naked.

Let me help, your not alone ;-) I prefer the clean look with the rear exhaust. And about sound: I have side pipes on my Cobra, and I am in my 3rd run of making them less noisy. I liked it initially, but got bored of it very quickly (except for the first few minutes). That I now suffer from tinitus (random whistling ear noise...) did not help neither. Do a long drive with side pipes and make up your mind based on that experience.
