All of my rebuilts over the years, and I am old, have developed a leak somewhere, and the NEW crate engines from GM are still sealed tight and have not even had a valve cover off!!
Free shipping to a business address is a plus!
All the top racers "season" the blocks for a long time before building them. Grumpy Jenkins used to put new ones in his ramp truck and put 100K on it before making it a race engine.
For the normal street.....probably makes no difference at all.

I've been in Grumpy's shop, he let the blocks sit out in the sun & rain too.
And I've been thru Klein Engines shop in Phoenix, they had 50 very rusty blocks sitting outside that they use to build their sprint car small blocks. AND their race engines run $28k to $44,000 each.
seasoned to me is a fancy term for "old" lol
old lifter bores, who knows on line hones etc
Good machinist doesnt matter but prefer new
To each their own
Dont think GM even sells new Gen 1 or 2 blocks anymore?

The Pros use seasoned blocks.
The reason they do that is to take the stress out of a rough machined CI block because as the CI cools in the mold stress is built up & after machining the iron will twist.. It's a slow form of heat treating the CI. It will also make the Iron more malleable.Been doing that for 75 years for CI surface plates, right angle plates & machine parts.
Sounds great...keep us informed how your installation progresses
Finally got the engine and transmission installed. I have a local car painter coming tomorrow to give me an estimate on the paint job. Feel like he's going to be EXPENSIVE!!!
Painting the car will not be cheap - don't even get in that mindset... All your prior work will be for squat if you get a dicked up paint job..
Thanks Frankie!!! The guy came by and said it would be a minimum of $15k. That's out of my price range. I have another guy, who did fantastic work, quoting $6-8k.
