I bought one a couple years ago from Jere Stahl (Stahl Headers) when he was closing his header business. He told me he bought it from John Lingenfelter several years ago and he (Jere) recently had it refurbished. He even sent me the certification test results for the refurb and he also included a screwdriver with his name engraved on the handle.
I have no idea how to use the dist machine but I probably should learn.
This is my Sun tuneup machine (with my wife's garage sale crap piled up against it, probably won't move until spring), and my 504 Sun dist machine. I inherited both when my uncle (Mom's older brother) closed down his garage several years ago. I learned how to use them by watching my uncle use them whenever I was at the garage.
I also have a VERY OLD Coats hand operated tire changer, which has more than paid for the $50 I gave for it over 35yrs ago, from a full service gas station that was closing down.
I found this pretty interesting on how to get a Pertronics equipped distributor to work on the Sun machine: https://www.ctci.org/gilsgarage/CheckingPertronix.php Heck, I was always pulling out the module and putting points/condenser back in to set up a distributor.
Also someone else was doing basically the same thing (but with 12V) to get an HEI to work on the Sun too.
A 9v radio battery is sufficient to 'activate' the Pertronix; its also how you set the rev limiter on the Pertronix III when the unit is not installed in a car...
I also have a module to connect up a HEI dist. for Sun Machine testing. But a GM Weather pack plug is required (maybe some small clip leads could be substituted), for connection to the HEI Dist. Note that this module is only for HEI versions with mechanical cent. advance.
As you see from the date on the below schematic, I have been at this a while......have had the Sun Machine since the mid 80's. I "carried it", plus my milling machine, lathe, complete valve grinding machine (including valve seat grinding tooling, etc.), 14" bandsaw, lathe, drill press, etc., etc., when we moved to FL from IL. WMF62 helped "A LOT" in the move into the new home! Last move ever..........

DZ, I cut my teeth on the equipment you have....that SUN analyzer is the bees knees on doing fine tune up work...real time oscilloscope, plus manual cylinder cancel....you can find virtually any issue with an engine and ignition system on an older vehicle in minutes. Takes up space, but still very, very useful. I wonder what the kids are going to do with all this stuff when all of us dinosaurs are gone?

That's nice to know, thanks for that link. I wonder if there is a way to check one with a Breakerless set up.

I thought the only reason for this machine is to setup a distributor with points. No need to on a pertronix setup, right?
I used to teach scope analysis for Allen test products and I owned one of those Sun machines. They are a great diagnostic tool that gives you a 'window' into the engine.
Here is a picture of my distributor machine in action.

Incorrect. You can still 'map' an electronic points conversion as to how much advance is invoked and when varying centrifugal weights and springs as needed. I've done it to all of my conversion - but with a digital 'dial-back' timing light. A bit of a PITA compared to a Sun machine but doable...

Rex,
That machine needs to migrate North where it will be put to very good use. Let me know when you're willing to part with it.
