I have a right side mirror on my 64 and was told it was an original GM over the counter mirror because it has the set screw on top.
I was told most people bought a left side mirror and put it on the right side with the set screw on the bottom.

As an aside and funny stories about side view mirrors, a good friend came to work one day on crutches with his knee all wrapped up. He came in my office and commented that those Corvette side view mirrors had a lot stronger mounting than he expected for a fiberglass car! I explained about the metal backing plate and asked for an explanation.
It seems he was following a vette in the left lane while on his motorcycle and when the vette pulled to the right after passing a car, he accelerated to pass the vette. Unfortunately the vette driver changed his mind and moved back to the left just as my friend was passing and his knee took off the vette's mirror!
I should mention that my friend usually drove the fastest bike available at the time and was probably already going much faster than the vette when it happened. When I commented that those fast bikes were going to get him killed, his response was that it wasn't fast enough because if it was he would have already been past the vette when he moved back to the left lane!!
I installed one on my '63 a few years ago and it works just fine. I also drove a truck for years and maybe that is why I find it more useful than some. I find backing up is much easier when you can see what's around you. You do have to move your head a little to get a good view, but it's better than backing into something on your right side blind spot. Go for it.
