I'm resto-moding my 63 vette. I've bought 19 and 18s rear and front wheels but they seem to stick out too far??? Can anyone tell me a good setup for wheels and tires to start with the wheels I want to build the car around???
thanks
Randall
Terrible title. I'm sorry, I don't know tire fitment, but if you'll start another thread and make the subject something along the lines of "Using 18/19 inch wheels on 63 Help", you'll get the attention of people who know and are willing to help.
You might also try pointing to "Forums" in the top left corner and then "General Corvette Topics" and then "Tire and Wheel". There you get answers from people really involved with such things.
And welcome to the Forum, I'm sure you'll get the answers you need.

Also, a 'golden rule' of building a car is never to build it around a set of wheels. Usually, too many other areas need to be compromised if the initial choice isn't spot on.

Because nowadays...a person can have custom billet wheels made to whatever off-set they need or whatever requirements that they want...and knowing that it is a resto-mod....spending money on that area should NOT be hindered. At least that is how I deal with that.

Great advice. For what it's worth the better billet wheel companies can send the wheels of choice with the centers not welded to the hoops so you can put the wheels on the car and adjust the backspace to exactly where it needs to be. You then mark the inside of the hoops and send the wheels back. The centers then get welded to the hoops and the backspace if you have done your job correctly is perfect. The only downside is you have to pick your width correctly or none of this works. I would think you will be limited to about 7" in the front and maybe 8" in the rear. Of course you can also use a tool from the Wheel Works that will simulate the wheel and you mount the tire on it to see what tire fits with what wheel combination. There's more than one way to do this but they all take time and oh yes money.
