[C1] Lets see your C1 with aftermarket wheels
#21
Anyone have any combos like 16" rears 15" fronts, 17" rears 16" fronts etc etc. I'm thinking 17/16 combo but it would sure be great to see known wheel size examples. Expensive mistake if it looks wrong. On most of my cars I went the full circle route and back to hubcaps and even bias ply tires. But now with the billets that look like hubcaps, I'd like to give that a try. No offense to anyone but I'm really liking the less rubber look, not rubber bands but something in between.
one more thought
When choosing after market wheels, I think we can all agree assuming the car hasn't been converted to four wheel disc brakes, that we don't like looking at drum brakes even if they are clean. A wheel choice must take that into consideration especially nowadays when drum brakes are looked at like a lawn full of dandelions.

There is a good reason everyone is running Cragars and TT's....they simply look and work great. Period correct and bad to the bone. I find that in my city of over 500,000 people, I am different merely by driving a C1.....I've only seen one other C1 on the road in my town in the past 5 years ....and it has baby moons (I think). Running stock wheelcovers currently on mine, like most people on the forum. Have to say the '65 wheel covers on Kermudgeon's car look excellent....and like the car came that way.

17's
17's front and back. 7inch in front and 8's in back. Added air shocks to keep back from rubbing.

Just where the front hubs come through the wheels. Hole isn't quite big enough, and I'll have to design some cones to cover the center. Western bolt ons off a Camero.

The outer perimeter is fine....it's the center hole. It's not quite big enough to fit over the hub, And the center spinner extension won't fit if I machine the hole bigger. I have to engineer some cone centers to go over the hubs, and make the hole bigger to fit. Even the center holes on the rallys were a tight fit over the hubs.

Melting Slicks
1961 with a Corvette Correction C4 Chassis with 4 wheel disc and independent rear suspension...GM rack and pinion steering.
The mags are American Racing 15" Aero's, with a 5" backspace (the tires on the mags are too big...they were just mounted to see what the wheels might look like on this car).
The stock acid dipped/polished hubcaps were mounted on 15" steel wheels custom built with a 5" backspace, by Stockton Wheel Company.
All the wheels maintained a 15" diameter and cleared early model C4 brake calipers....with a little massaging of the cooling fins.
The idea was to maintain a 1961 stock chassis appearance...with 15" wheels.
Note: The car sits high in both pics..because it didn't have a engine or trans in either one.

Mine too, one big problem. They start at $1390.00 per wheel, $5560 for a set of 4 OUCH! I didn't know this at the time I put that up. I will probably use hubcaps. Too many cars to do to justify this much money in wheels for one car.
Really liking this thread, would like to see everyone put wheel and tire sizes with their pics. That's valuable and critical info that any wheel swapper needs to know if they want to duplicate the look or modify it.
