In the last 48 years I have heard all of these comments and more.
Driving my 57 around for the last 6 months I find most of the grey hairs ask what year it is some get it, some are close and some are 10 years off. The young kids really like it but often ask what it is.
I had a 20 something kid ask me what year it was and when I told him he asked me if I bought it new. LOL! I said " how old do you think I am? I then said that this car was likely bought by someone that was 25-35 years old so that would make me 85-95 years old." He said "oh, yeah." I guess math was not his strong suite.
Well...when I'm talking to somebody about my recently purchased '63 (roadster), I can't even get to the end of the sentence before they ask; Is it a split window?
Then I have to hang my head down and say, no....it's only a lowly roadster...LOL!!
I think from now on I'm just going to start by saying it's a two top roadster, '63 model.
But I would bet that still won't stop many of them from posing the same question.

Pat
Ehhh just put a vertical zipper down the middle of the soft top rear window. Done.
Well before I sold my 61 I cruised in front of our local grocery store, top down, and some tattooed up guy and his hot girlfriend were heading into the front door of the place.
He hollers at me, "Do you have the retractable hard top?". What could I do ?

here in belgium C2s are very rare, and have never even been imported in the 60-ies. If in a conversation people ask what corvette I have been rebuilding, near impossible to make my point. So I ended up answering 'the one with the two small windows in the back', and then I get 'oh yes, now I know, what a great car'. I have a 64

I bought my '63 in the 60's. In the past 20+ years if I happen mention I own a '63 Corvette, as you can imagine, the first question is of course, "is it a Split Window?"
Lately I've taken to responding, "well sort of." "Back in the 60's people cut the split out to improve the rear visibility. I went one step further and made it into a convertible!"
This tells me a couple of things. 1. These cars (C2) have achieved icon status even among the novice car person. 2. The "split window" description has taken on a life of its own as the go-to phrase to describe a mid year.
I agree with MYC on this one. There has been so much discussion about one of the coolest automotive designs of all times (it seems to make everyone's top ten list as some point even when they post an accompanying photo of any year and any body style Midyear in their story) that "Split Window" has entered the vernacular as the all-encompassing description for the '63-'67's. It doesn't bother me to hear it.
With the long lasting popularity and the talk that the '67 has become the epitome of Midyear styling it's a matter of time before people start referring to my '66 as "Looks like you have a '67, you know, the one where they finally got it right".

IIRC, in another similar thread someone with a mid-year convertible was asked the same question and the response was something like; "Yes it's a split-window but it's out for rust repair."
