Default head casting and date code .

Folks, I have a chance to buy some heads with the casting number
for my 58, but what about the month/year? do heads have a date code also?

Heads have a date code but it's under the valve cover and not judged.

However, if you want correctness, the head casting date needs to be before the engine build date (not engine casting date) if it has one - which has to be before the car build date.

NCRS guidance says no more than 6 months before the car build date, but closer is more common.

Head casting date codes will be XyyZ, where X = month, in letters A-L, yy will be date of the month 1-31, and Z will be the last number of the year, 0-9.

You will also need the right casting head part number for your 58.

Only heads cast in Flint.

Tonawonda cast date has a two digit year, while Flint heads use a single number to represent the year. K128 vs k1258
