I've always wondered what the scam is. Is the guy gonna hit you in the head and steal your cash or what. Obviously if someone goes to look at it, there will be no sale.

I think the scam would be trying to get you to pay up front for the car with a promise to have it delivered to you. When I was looking for a car I responded to an ad and the seller promised me a 30-day no questions asked refund, as long as I paid up front and used his shipping company. If the car is close to you, probably worth taking a look, but I'd avoid any deals site unseen.

Rest assured, he will ask for money well before making any appointment for someone to see the car.
Is anyone naive enough to pay somebody money before looking at the car?
Abso-freakin'-loutely....
A forum member on here was ripped off for $8,700 on a midyear frame/chassis/drivetrain a few years back. He wired the money before seeing the piece and on the drive down to retrieve the frame found out from ANOTHER person that was ripped off the same way (for the same amount) that it was a scam....
When it comes to getting stuff cheap, "....hope springs eternal in the breast of man"; generally with disastrous results
If you ask to see it, they will either stop responding or inform you that the car is currently located in a foreign country.
Or as in the case of a friend looking at a C5 Z06, they will give the location as a legitimate dealership but further checking will show the dealership knows nothing about having the car in their inventory.
CL is a haven for bottom of the barrel people, have found selling is about impossible on there,; sorting through scams thugs people who want to rob you or gather personal info its too much of a headache to deal with anymore. Most car sites are winding up that way also that used to be known for more legit stuff.
After one email I insist on calls only that will tell you the rest. Ignore texts.
I would guess that maybe 1% are fake but its also a free sight and you are not paying for it.
In the major markets like where I am, Boston, 75% of the auto adds are scams. I go on it every day. They are sooo easy 2 recognise it's rediculous. I use to flag them but it's just a big wsste of time.
