Default ‘63 upper windshield molding?

While I’m looking, I’m wondering if anyone knows of a source of a 1963 only upper windshield molding stainless? The dreaded “N/A” listing at LICS is a bad sign.

Prefer OEM of course, but not sure what the options are and I know a couple people have replaced windshields recently. Keen, maybe.

EDIT, not Keen, either. I see listings on eBay for repro and NOS for 63-67. I’m pretty sure 63 is different. Anyone know what the difference is?

The difference is the length of the portion that sits down in the channel to grab the clips. That 1963 top molding is one year only and just for the coupe where as the lower molding is used on both coupe and convertible on 63 cars. Both moldings are unique to just the 1963 model year.

You can use the 64-67 lower molding on the 63 provided you use the 64-67 molding clips.

Is there a source for an upper coupe molding for ‘63, either used or repro?

Is there a clear way to identify it by appearance when buying?

Isn't that lower photo a C1 door cove molding piece? I "think" I know what you are referring to, though.

As you're finding out, the 63 coupe windshield moldings, are unique to 63's, and are not being repro-ed.

Chuck Walthers, in Schenectady NY, usually has restored 63 moldings available (and 64-67 too). His phone number is 518-337-7528.

I am going to resurrect this thread since all the experts are here. I am putting the trim back around the windshield of my SWC racer and I have the upper but am missing the lower piece. So what I'm reading is a lower convertible piece 64-67 will work for the SWC lower and use the clips for it?

Thanks
Steve

That is not correct. The lower molding for a split window coupe is the same as a lower molding for a 63 convertible. And that is it. I am still looking for a upper Cp molding.

That'll be a tough one....even the restomod crowd use that piece....maybe David Sokolowski or the NCRS Driveline or you could check with Bob Jorjorian on the NCRS web site...(I may have that spelling wrong)...

I'll look at the Florida Regional NCRS swap meet but vendor participation there is W-A-Y down now...

The trim is getting hard to find, do you have the correct clips for the top where it meets the side trim because that's different also.

No I don't. Didn't know that was an issue. What exactly do I need?

Pretty much what tbarb is saying in post #3.

According to the AIM:

'63 Coupe 3823440 ($5.10 back in '63 BTW)
'63 Conv 3823440
'64 Conv 3841254

I found this at Corvette Specialties. https://www.csofmdwest.com/product/1...ng-gm-3841254/

Here is an original 63 coupe side windshield molding with a 64-67 lower windshield reveal molding from CSofMDwest. They look to fit pretty well together. CSof MDwest said I just need to use the 64-67 clips on the lower molding. I have the clips and will be doing a test fit soon.

Very nice. Looks like that is what I will be doing. Question, since my car has been a race car since 1966 I see no way the clips attach. Are they screwed into the side of the channel?

Do you have a 1963 assembly manual to look at, maybe someone will post a picture of the AIM page showing the windshield reveal mouldings.

There are clips that slide in the side vertical mouldings (top and bottom) and they snap into the clips that attach to the windshield channel. These clips hold the side mouldings down where they overlap the top and bottom horizontal mouldings.

Using the 64 - up lower moulding requires use of the 64 - up clips that screw into the lower channel. Do you have any original clips that came with the car.
