The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) was created specifically to handle issues with stolen cars, branded titles, etc.
Here is a link to more info about NMVTIS
https://www.vehiclehistory.gov/nmvtis_faq.html
By the way, it was NMVTIS that uncovered the issue of two different people, in two different states claiming ownership of 1953 Corvette E53F001029.
Google the VIN number for details.

If a person would give $45,000 for that plug and it hadn't been in a flood..........

He should quickly depart the used car business and take up something like needlepoint.

OK, see the attached listing for my new Ebay ad.
I am selling the NMVTIS report for a 1966 Corvette, VIN 194376S114927.
Starting bid is $1. I wonder how many bids I will get for this valuable report.

It's definitely gona start some kind of storm.
For you guys more knowlegable, could a coupe and a convertible have the same vin with the exception of the 37 vs 67? I wouldn't think so but seems like it happened unless this is going to get even more twisted. If Chevrolet did screw up on the vins would there be any value to owning both?
Ok which one of you guys is v**t and which one is 0**0?

Why would there be 8 bids within one minute, all by the same bidder?

I am truly surprised that there are any bids on my report.
But, as it turns out, and purely by coincidence, that very vehicle is currently listed for sale on Ebay as a car that has sat for 20 years.
The Ebay ad for the car makes NO mention of the FLOOD SALVAGE status of the car.

The only way for that ad to disappear is for Ebay to take it down.
And no, I am not actually going to accept any payment for the report.
In fact, the report, the exact thing that is being auctioned, is photograph 2 in the ad.

I cancelled the bids of bidders with zero feedback. One of the zero feedback bidders is located in Nigeria, the other is located in Hungary.
I still have two bidders, one in the US and one in Germany.

what would happen if someone in a non title state like me 1973 and down in ny bought that car from copart? maybe a salvage inspection probably where they only check for stolen parts . there are no way that i know of to brand a transferable ny registration.

If a dealer is involved or other auto as in rental company, they may not report it but clean it to send it to another location for sale still having a “Clean” tile. Bought a car that sometime realized it was in an frontal accident but had a “clean carfax, fleet car. Best just stay away fron cars that originate from flood areas if possible.
