I was surprised to find the original exhaust and mufflers from the factory on the car.

Assuming it is not seized up, it may be surprising easy to get running again.

And once the car is running, you can then check all of the other systems.

BUT, step 1 is to get a decent set of tires on it.

Congrats, keep us posted.
I am thinking with summer 1/2 gone that is exactly what I will do. The oil on the dipstick is clean, and looks like it was just changed. The antifreeze in clean and bright green, plugs all look good and new plug wires. Ballast resister bypasted so 12 Volts to the points. Pulled the valve covers and pretty clean, no sludge around the rockers. Put a new clutch and the fan, and a new thermostat in. Going after the belts and hoses next, and then the carb. Then the tank and fuel system and after I get it running the brakes after that. I got some tires and wheels for it, ralleys, just hope they are not to wide.

Default Clean up

If I had it, I'd take it to a good local shop where I know and trust the owner. I'd ask that he access all of the mechanicals. If the list is reasonable, I would probably ask that he do everything needed to get it safely on the road. If the list is onerous, I would consider full restoration or sell it before I get in deep.
Hopefully the critters didn't get to it.
Been doing a lot of clean up, so far no critters were in it except for spiders, all the webs are untouched, no evidence of mice or anything else. going through a complete check out but so far it appears that the 56K is the correct mileage, amazing original except for the engine and minor maintenance items.

Thanks, I am really excited about the find. The first time I saw the car was in 1992, never thought I would own it! I agree, and after going through the quarter car wash it blew some chunks of paint off and one of my friends said "Patina is so hot right now you should just leave it the way it is ! " I am not sure about that, but I am not going for a full blown restoration either, I want something that is fun to drive, great to look at, and as another friend said, "It'll turn heads if you leave it alone," but the dirt had to go. You said it all " come on...it's a big block midyear!"

Default Rubbed out

As another member on the Forum suggested I tried to rub it out and buff it. I did it by hand because I was afraid of the heat generated by an orbital polisher. It came out really nice on the sides, for old (I believe acrylic enamel) On the repaint some of the masking was not so good so there is some blue on weatherstripping and trim, but that will come off. No the front of the car which saw the most sun did not come out so well, it is very dull, and the polish even removed some more of the blue so I stopped and am contemplating what to do with the hood and top of the front fenders.

Looks really nice.
I cleaned the seats and door panels. I was not able to get all the black dirt out of the seams and stitching. May try an old tooth brush tomorrow, but they are 10 time better than they were. I used a product called Blue Magic for Leather and Vinyl. And other suggestions on getting them cleaner. There are still a few stains that may never come out.

Mr clean Magic eraser works great on white. For seams, tooth brush will definitely help but take it nice and slow.

Then I put the top down to try and blow out some more dirt on the road home.
Surprised that the tires held air for the time being,
I have been told Simple Green is the best thing to wash the top, seats and door panels with, I would like to get some thoughts on this as I don't want to damage them.
Going to take seats out so I can vacuum the interior good, and the top compartment also.
The frame is amazing clean and solid. I think the exhaust is factory original which goes along with my belief the mileage is correct at 56K.
Any other suggestions on clean up are welcome.
More pictures to come tomorrow. My phone is dead from the day long usage.
Thanks again guys for all your support.
Well I finally got the pics off of the phone and resized. Enjoy

I think it's in decent shape considering the circumstances. Good luck and keep the updates coming!

Very, very, very cool.

Great pictures, great story. Getting it running safely with a minimum of restoration is totally the answer.

Looks like a great car to enjoy.
