Yep, that is a '55 block. It's unlikely to have been in a Corvette but post the assembly code on the engine pad and you'll find out for sure.

What exactly is stamped on the pad that is marked by the red oval (that the arrow points to) in this picture.
It will be something like:
0012345 F55F
The first 7 digits are the engine sequence number
F = Flint engine plant (T = Tonowanda engine plant)
55 = year 1955
F = (one of two characters that defines the application and equipment for this engine. The only Corvette application codes for 1955 are FG (powerglide) and GR (3 speed manual).
It will be something like:
0012345 F55F
