See post #6. R6 is the old stuff that is compatible without E 10. Not with. Parts places sell a lot of R6 because they don't know any better. The customer doesn't either and besides, it's a lot cheaper than R9. Not that a foot or so of hose will break the bank.

90 cents for a foot of R7 vs $7 or $8 for a foot of R9, the R7 (or 6) wins out 95% of the time.

Is the gas cap vented or non-vented. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but a non-vented gas cap can cause this kind of issue, if the rubber vent hose from the tank to the filler neck is block. If cap is vented, then that shouldn't be the problem. If it does it again remove the gas cap and see if it will start and you should hear a loud whoosh if there is a big vacuum in the tank.

It wasn't cost. I usually bring in whatever line comes off a car to compare to what they are giving me so then unfortunately it won't get upgraded. Some stores have found with hoses on the wrong reels so its mis-marked.

The SAE # is clearly marked on the hose.

Possible: collapsed/clogged sock in fuel tank
Vapor lock in fuel line
Small cracks in rubber line that won't leak fuel, but will let air get pulled in by pump, stopping fuel flow.
I've run into all three. The collapsed sock and the cracked rubber line have really kicked my butt in the past on old cars on road trips. Live and learn........

OK. I think I found the problem. The tank vent. I removed the hose and put a short piece of hose on the tank vent and tried to blow thru it but can't. Tried to push some wire to clear it but it would not bend past the curve. Anyone have any suggestions?
I did change the flexible rubber hoses to the fuel injection (SAE J30R9) hose as people suggested & new hose clamps. Blew our the solid steel line. Changed the flexible line by the pump. Figured might as well reduce future problems while I am at it.
And I did successfully blow thru the vent hose from the tank vent to the gas cap so that is fine.
Thanks everyone! Hopefully you can help fix the vent.

Its been a while but isn't the rubber tank vent hose attached to the sending unit ? if so just lift out the sending unit and check it out on the bench. Its odd because I suspect the sending unit hose bib is just a hollow bit of metal pipe and shouldn't clog... I guess it could have a one way valve but I don't believe so.

Actually it has a vented cap on the car though you are correct its supposed to be non-vented. I found the valve on the gas cap (that provides the vent) was stuck. Shoved a small screwdriver in the hole to free it up. So my guess is that the cap was providing the needed vent until the valve stuck.
So that leaves me with the problem of how to open up the vent on the tank itself. Any suggestions?

Thought I already mentioned I tried running a wire thru it but it won't go pass the curve in the tank vent. The hose is fine, already checked that too.

Pipe cleaner, high pressure compressed air, carb cleaner in a spray can, things like that.

Old speedometer/tachometer cable works pretty well for this kind of thing, too...

Now I am completely stumped!
Nope! Blocked vent was not the problem.
I cannot get any gas to the fuel line. I have it disconnected by the rear wheel, where the tank line connects to the line to the pump along the frame. Not a drop of gas. And removed the gas cap to be certain the tank vents. I was able to blow air from that point in the line back into the tank though.
Tried using my old fuel sender but same. Tried removing the sock. There is about a half a tank of gas. Replaced the rubber lines once again. Can not get gas out of the tank.
What am I missing? Do not know what else to try. Any suggestions welcome.

I also tried with no sock on the pickup but didn't help.
I then tried my old pickup, using the sock that was on it.
The socks won't fit on the other pickups so can't swap just the socks.
I also blew thru the pickups with the socks on to be sure no blockage.
