The ignition was not locked so I can start it and drive it but can not lock the ignition. I have a new lock cylinder. Anyone know how I can get the old cylinder out to replace it??? If you do not want to post it here I understand. Email me through the forum. I know someone has resolved this issue before.
I would take a door lock out and go to a locksmith to get a new key made. The only way I know to get the old cylinder out without a key is to drill it out.
A locksmith can pull the cyl on the dash of cut ya a key.
To remove the cyl ya need a paper clip and a method to pull it out once ya find the release button if ya don’t have the key...... I might be wrong but this is what I remembered when rebuilding the dash
Normally you turn the key in the cylinder to the left and put a paper clip in the small hole to depress an internal pin and then turn the key farther left to uninstall the cylinder.
If you are missing the key then take your glovebox lock (hopefully ITS not locked) to a locksmith to get a key for the old ignition cylinder - all locks use the same key in 63 (including the spare tire tub lock)....the glovebox lock is held in on the back by a single Philip's head screw... The smith can disassemble the lock and get the tumbler codes to create a key to remove your ignition cylinder. Take your new key with you and he can recode the glovebox lock for the new key as well.
Alternatively, If you have buddies with GM keys you can try several of them -- my 61 key would start my 63 and vice versa....not that many combos back then.
I have 10 old GM keys in my tool box. I have not found a old Corvette they wont start yet. Ask a friend to try their keys and get one made. They wear and usually fit most cars.

Me too.......I have a collection of old GM keys, probably over a hundred, and haven't been stumped yet. Go to an old dealership or garage and they'll probably have a big ring of old keys they will lend you to try. Good luck.
