I would have the paint fixed on that passenger fender and drive it as is, after cleaning up the engine compartment.

The chrome and stainless looks remarkably good, at least in the pics.

I seem to remember that interior was a factory option. Post a picture on the NCRS website for confirmation. A lot of us would be happy to have your wife drag us to yard sales.

This is the generator on my 56 which I chromed over 45yrs ago (I used to work in a chrome shop). My friend that had the 60 (MAYBE the one above) saw my generator and asked if I would chrome his---------I did.

Oh ya, and by the way, I chromed the ENTIRE front suspension (including the cross member), ENTIRE rear suspension/axle housing, driveshaft, I disassembled the soft top frame and chromed each piece, transmission cross member, brake drums (but they are in a box in the attic since I added HD finned brake drums) fan, pulleys, fan shroud, exhaust manifolds (but have since replaced them with cast finish manifolds), engine mount parts, and multiple other parts. YES, I regret it now!!!!!!!

Ha! When I worked at the Navy Depot, they had their own chrome shop....for the right amount of Jack Daniels (look up "comshaw") you could get anything chromed....a friend had a complete Harley frame done.

And, yes, at one time chrome ruled and everybody did it...

On this car that master cylinder would look a lot better chromed than that godawful orange

Maybe there should be a "background check" for mental health before just anybody can buy a spray bomb of GM orange...

Nice car and great deal at a garage sale. If your wife is like mine she will take the amount you spent on the car and double it for her next purchase. After nearly 40 years I know her program.

But, when I see a deal and tell her it is a deal, she always says go get it.

I hope the car is a lot of fun to drive. Go have some fun!

Frankie you are correct about the cars that ran into Mexico for interior work. I had a friend buy a VW Bus with gutted interior.
He ran down to Mexico and for $300 had the entire interior tuck and rolled, we are talking about the headliner, side panels/walls and the door panels and seats. In 1970 his bus was really cool.
Looking back it was very nice work, would cost a fortune in the US. He had to drive 700 miles each way to get it done.

You needed to be careful about those cut rate Tijuana tuck and roll jobs back in the day. Some of them got stuffed with straw- which wasn’t always new....... Best thing was to stay and watch while it was done, NOT hit the local bars and clubs while you waited!

Co-worker had his '57 Chevy done in black tuck and roll in TJ back in '66. He told me he hung around to make sure they weren't using shredded newspaper to stuff the seats, which was used along with straw, old clothes, etc. When we went to Ensenada in '66 and '67, they were selling those leather sandals with treads made from old car tires. My dad bought two pair....I thought those were totally cool at the time....and still do!

Are the seats and door panels weathered and cracked or supposed to be that way?

Oh yeah - Jurachi (I’m pretty sure I spelled that wrong) sandals! Very cool! I had several pairs in my teens and 20s. Still see them for sale at street fairs and flea markets around here occasionally.

Love it! Bring interior back to stock and detail the engine compartment (not that much work and definitely worth it) and that is a NICE car!

First verse of the Beach Boys' Surfin USA:

If everybody had an ocean
Across the U. S. A.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like Californi-a
You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies
Huarachi sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo
Surfin' U. S. A.

Looks like we both - and the Beach Boys lyrics writer too - were wrong. I went with "J" because in Spanish that is sounded as "H", but was still off. Looks like it actually ends in "e".

Could paint the coves Ermine White to remedy the paint damage, which with Honduras Marroon and black interior was an original color combo
