Shifter or linkage
Was ready to buy a shifter rebuild kit then realized I may need a linkage rebuild kit. (65 4 speed Muncie )
is there a way to tell which one I need or should I do both?
My shifter feels loose and it’s hard to downshift into first even when stoped.

sounds like you need to adjust it. the procedure is in the Service manual and AIM. once its adjusted correctly and still has play in it then you can rebuild it. but there is not much to rebuild them
