Question, Are you a purist?

Question, Are you a purist?
NCRS ****'s, Corvette ****'s, Purist's, or whatever, I'm sure you've all heard the terms before. They're used in sentences like "I'll bet the purists are crying their eye's out about that Hot rod Corvette", "The NCRS ****'s must be going out of their minds over that one" or my personal favorite "I'm gonna build it just to **** off the purists". Are there really people out there that think stuff like "If it's not stock it's junk. If it doesn't have matching numbers it's worthless". Does anybody really care that much? Are they that passionate about strict originality? Now I may question the wisdom in modifying a rare car and potentially decreasing it's value. But that's just a money thing. If they can afford it I guess it's OK with me. To me most stock Corvettes, unless they are of the performance variety, are pretty boring so why not build some excitement into them? I'm a long time NCRS member and I've had restored cars and modified ones and I'll readily admit I've enjoyed my modified ones much more. They are just plain better than Chevrolet built them. Chevrolet made enough Corvettes that there is room for all styles in this hobby. These things aren't Duesenberg's and they never will be, I promise. There's just too many of them. My local NCRS group has about 60 members. I don't think there's a one that can't appreciate a nice modified Corvette. Sure they like stock ones, but many have modified cars also. Do purists really think a base, 250 horse, powerglide car can't be improved upon? I find it very closed minded that some will insist that all Corvettes must be stock. Geez, even Duntov, Bill Mitchell, and many of the top brass at GM had modified Corvettes. Look at what one of their cars is worth today! For decades a stock Corvette was worth more than a modified one, and that's why I liked them stock back then, once again, a money thing. But when resale value isn't a factor and it's all about the fun, I'd rather have a less expensive modified Corvette. There have been a few times when I was showing one of my Hot Rod Corvettes and I was approached by some guy and told my car was ruined because it wasn't stock. Really? (Maybe I don't look intimidating enough or something , because I wouldn't dare say something like that to someones face.) Every time after talking with the person I find out that they've never even owned a Corvette. Yet for some reason they seem compelled to inform me that mines ruined! Why is their opinion the only right one? Anyway, in my experience it turns out the Corvette ****'s I've run into have never even owned one. So the question is, as an actual Corvette owner, are you a purist? And why is stock the only way to go? Do all Corvettes have to be stock or can there be exceptions? Also, do all other collector cars have to be stock too or is it just Corvettes? Finally, If you're a purist does it actually **** you off or make you want to cry if you see a hot rod Corvette? What do you think?

This question, in some form or another, has been absolutely beaten to death in this forum lately, only not quite as angry and aggressive as this. I’m inclined to close it now before the brawl starts, but I hate to do that. So, let’s see how long this one lasts. It ends when the conflict begins.
2 things. Consider dialing back the attack on all purists and don’t use the word “****” again.

Most NCRS people I know like them both ways. But why do non NCRS people have to criticize THEIR part of the hobby. There is plenty of room in the sand box for everyone. Play with what you like and stop caring about others. With that said I would take a base 250 Auto car over most modified ones. I like GM designs not others And I’m only 34.

HOT ROD CORVETTES???? I can't believe anyone would want to rod an American Sports Car!!!
Some love the thrill of owning the only perfectly restored example of the original. But, does plastic surgery restore a 50 year old Grandmother to a virgin??
Restore them, drive them, hotrod them, play with them. Do your thing whether you own a real Corvette or not.
Just $.02

A bit on the harsh side no?
There's room here for everybody.
I really don't believe the builders/owners of the none NCRS Corvettes had any malintent towards the NCRS.
Some of these "hot rods" were not capable of being returned to stock because they were too far gone.
The more that get resurrected to being capable of at least driver status or beyond the better.
IMCO passion drives the Corvette hobby fortunately not spite.

Being a member of this Forum is all about helping people. If you own a corvette (in any form) you are my brother and I will bend over backwards to help you in any way I can. I try to keep all of my comments on this Forum in that category as I see most other members doing.
If I want controversy I will put on my MAGA hat and go to an ANTIFA rally. Likely not much good is going to come from this thread.

I tried to remain pure until after official judging like Mom taught me; "saving myself" until after I got a Flight Award, but then one of those sexy, suave, good-looking split windows came along and I let my heart overrule my head and well - you can guess the rest. I was seduced without benefit of the NCRS clergy. Now I am a fallen owner and shunned by many who would judge me and my car. I don't care anymore, I just want to be happy. Is that wrong of me ?
Now my car has LED headlights, radial tires, glazed ham paint, electronic ignition, solid state radio and voltage regulator and (GASP !) aftermarket air conditioning....
I still struggle a bit with the dissapointment I've brought others and considered "car counseling" but the Corvette refuses to go. The car lets me down sometimes and it seems I'm always the one that has to "patch things up"...I've tried to talk to it about its gasoline addiction but it just won't listen....
This is my tragic life right now.

Once I see text with no para breaks, I just don't read it. My eyes will eventually see a hodge-podge of words all crammed in on area, it's just hard to follow. Don't get old.

Pretty long winded statement the op made. I guess that if I must make a choice, I'll take the original car every day of the week

It’s really not a war between original vs. modified as your posting seems to imply. It’s just a preference. I believe the vast majority of Corvette owners appreciate all Corvettes.
Live and let live. As you say, there are lots of Corvettes out there. Room for all tastes in this hobby.

I agree that the original post was pretty much unreadable. If you can't get your point across in a shorter form than that, you probably don't have much of a point.
I guess the 'question" was about why some folks prefer stock Corvettes and some prefer modified ones. My grandfather always said, "Kid, it's a very good thing that different people like different things, or else every guy would be after your grandmother." Smart man.

During my working years, I was a Technical Writer/Editor. Here's an edit of the original post so you don't have to read the whole thing:
"Some people like original Corvettes."
"Some people like modified Corvettes."
"What do you think about that?"

Actually, I lightly modify the crap out of my Corvettes...I can't help myself......However, I am extremely Envious and Respectful of the Corvette Owners who keep their cars original.....It is an Art Form!
Do I want to go to a Car Show and see a C1 Corvette that looks like it did when driven of the factory line? Yeah!!! I do.....
