TCracingCA, incredible picture and research....Where is the Maroon coupe these days, and as for status, is it restored or preserved?

I only do threads like this, because I have grown tired of some of the conversations that circle the bowl, but never flush.
I figure throw together a meat and potatoes full topic, and hope for contributions, a collective of knowledgeable guys to help bring it home.
I am just a solo researcher, and have no real permanent group of like minded people, or organization that I am connected to. I do have way too much literature for a single effort individual to go through, in my lifetime. I study pictures, and check the things in the background. Race car records has been a hobby interest since about age 8-9, first races attended were 1965/6 at Lions, age 5. First Can Am race attended was 1967 at Riverside. From that point, I got the Competition Press out of the mailbox weekly, read the Corvette news monthly. I have 55 years of retaining car facts, statistics.
The McQueen car is believed to have been found.

I dont track Ownerships or car locations. Collaterally I end up finding alot of that type of information, but not my thing.

Without literature, I was going thru my notes on the Towers prototype car. He was a guy associated with these. The story goes that that car was gifted thru Rathman Chevrolet (Dealership that supplied the Astronauts).
As the L88 was a race car, we didn't have a true 1967 L88 test. The closest we get was the Proving Ground car, shown to the Press and the famous 12.8 ET run that has listed on all of the Fastest Muscle car lists. This prototype is strange and what then was its purpose? They were still attempting to fix those aluminum heads mostly.
If we look at the L88, the cars thought to have aluminum heads on my lists is an interesting study. I am going to try to organize those 1966 HD/M22 by appearance date, and by the known Vins.
What is very telling is this 12.8 ET car was chosen by Zora to show off, not the Claimed mule, the Towers car.

Notable tribute cars coming soon!
Some great cars to be added here! And you never know, maybe one will get bumped up!
194677s119075 This car has circulated for sometime with this claim, but have not found the car written up or documents shared.
2- Here is Steve P (not #67, but #78) Big Block racer! Great running car back then!
A whole ole bunch more to go!!!!!!! Fun

My dad owned and found the 67 Silver coupe on page 1 back in 1989. He did a title search and found the original owner and met with him about the car. Eventually the original owner passed away. My father sold the car in 1993 and the gentleman who purchased it restored it to the way it looks today. It was used at the NCRS museum as a display at one point in time too.
