My '63 hotrod came equipped with a horizontally mounted Hurst handle like this one when I bought it in 1978. I switched to a standard round **** in 1983.

My '66 has a vintage white Hurst shifter but I have a custom '41 Harley with a shift **** that has neat message from the period.

I used the stock small black ball for a few decades

but prefer the feel of the larger 8 ball

ha......that reminds me of when I had a Carlsberg draft tap on my 66. Looked really cool until I was racing someone and went to pull second and it BROKE off! The sharp edge went with my hand and gouged my leg pretty good, lots of blood. So I wouldn't recommend any type of plastic beer tap for a shift ****.
Currently I'm using an old (ebay) ACME walnut shift know that has the C1 logo on the top of it. It matches my walnut custom wheel perfectly. I'd post a pic but this site keeps giving me grief when posting from home PC....ALERT notice

From ebay today......

Kerm
The Schlitz tap handle is solid aluminum. It really is pretty stout. No pun intended.
