Default 64 L84 Previously in for sale section

It is my understanding there may have been a member(s) here who were familiar with the unrestored 64 FI coupe that was advertised a few weeks back. The information available is minimal and would like to learn more. I purchased the car for myself an would like to pursue any sort of historical leads.

Thanks,
Tim Schuetz

I received the car yesterday and I am thrilled. The body and frame are typical to a west coast car. Most every number is original to the car with the exception of starter, alternator, and rear diff. I snapped some pics before I start cleaning. Again, I am searching for historical info on the car. So, if you know anything about it, please reach out.

Thanks,
Tim

Looks like the black Motor Trend '64 Fuelie test car. This doesn't have the big brakes, does it?

One cool car. I would take this one all day long over a restored car. Good luck and have fun with it.

Super cool. Thanks for sharing. What are your plans for the car? Keeping as is, as a survivor?

Master cylinder and fuel pump may not be typical.

The exhaust system appears to be either original or correct original. The fuel pump should have a AC on the bottom. Take time to check your bolt heads while you are at it. You may find that most of them are original to the car as well. Great car!!

I have a feeling that the more you nose around the car the more you are going to find how original and well preserved it is. It looked like a wonderful car, with patina that you can't replicate. Very nice car. Enjoy it.

Looks like a very original car. I had a '64 fuelie that looked pretty similar, 33K miles, out of Ohio. It appears to have a lot of rust for a California car all its life. You sure it was never in say, Ohio?

Just going to get it set mechanically, and drive it as it is. I ordered a radiator this morning (original is leaking). I'll get the engine / trans out to go through those. Go through the injection unit, and perhaps put new wiring harness's in the car. I'll keep this thread going as it seems there is interest in the car.

Waiting on the NCRS Shipping report right now. What I have found out, this was a customer car that sat at John's FI service for about 40 years. My experience with mid west cars, this would be much worse if it spent any time there. How long ago did you have it Mike?

Thanks,
Tim

Interesting that the injector has a serial number stamp on the boss for the balance tube support clip. I was under the impression only Canadian cars had the VIN stamp. Curious as to what the injector serial number is on the data plate? This is speculation by me, the injector does not have the 63 air meter so the injector serial number should be above 1350. The fuel meter is fitted with the internal baffle so the presence of the baffle could place the injector serial number above 1700. The distributor has a 4B1, Feb 1, 1964 build date which I have not recorded before today, not the more common 4C3, 4C13, 4C23 dates. I think this is a March 64 built car, so a monthly FI build average of 115 could place the injector serial number around 1500 with late Nov/early Dec 63 being the introduction of the 380 model injector. Wish the car was mine! Good luck on the research of the history on it.

I still have it. It was raced around Ohio for a few years, and then mostly sat, but sitting around in a closed garage doesn't rust a car's chassis and engine compartment area. It takes driving in the rain, snow, and salt, or sitting in an open carport, high humidity type area, etc.,to get that look to it. I have a California/West Texas '64 fuelie that has 13K miles and it has almost no rust after all this time. I think you may find some non-California time on this car when you get the NCRS report. It will be great fun to search through the owner history, I always loved researching my cars. Good luck, a very interesting car with no doubt an interesting history.

I don't know JS about fuel cars, but that has the perfect CA patina. Seems like a super right car. Glad it ended up with you, Tim.
