It adds frontal area, but reduces under car airflow drag, so the effects are a trade off.

A C2/C3 needs high frontal pressure to help feed an air pressure drop across the radiator for cooling, so the air dam enhances cooling at rest (by separation) and at speed (by pressure). The engine area under the hood remains a medium pressure area due to radiator air flow, but still higher pressure compared to to faster airflow areas above and to the sides of the car body, and the engine compartment pressure directs the exhaust air flow down the angled foot well panels to pick up speed and lower the under car pressure from the birdcage to the back of the car. The airflow turbulence under the front suspension & crossmember is broken up front by the air dam to reduce pressure under the forward end of the chassis, and the engine compartment air flow adds speed to the rear low-velocity/high-pressure pocket that normally lifts the rear of the chassis, esssentially reducing the under car lift along the entire chassis. The enhancement is far from perfect, given it's adapted to a 60 year old car with excess power, but the benefits exceed the detriments to fuel mileage.

Below is a link to installation info on using a front air deflector/spoiler from a Saturn...in this case, an Avanti. I had an '80 Avanti (pictured) that had this very unit installed and it was discrete and did its job. Just thought I'd share.

Mine also has the Ecklers spoiler but it was on the car when I got it so I can't speak for installation.

It looks very nice. Like it is supposed to be there from the factory.

Is there is an optimum angle that the spoiler should be installed to for maximum benefit?

Larry,

I'm going with the angle that I am dealt with....Using Tom Austin's plan.......I might add two rivets underneath in the middle epoxy area on the bottom flange........

Sam,

I'm still getting mine fitted with the bumpers. You may not have that issue with your GS. But once the fitment is correct for my liking, I will attempt to utilize (2) of the mounting holes to hide (2) Adjustable Carbon fiber jacketed stainless supports left over from my LG full front splitter on my C6Z. That's the plan, anyway! My support Rods are on Back order from YearOne...

Dynamic corvette front c2 spoiler. Keeping bracket openings small as possible adds to good install.
