Default 1960 door posts

I've been working on getting my 60 ready for paint. Time finally came to pull the doors off and apart. My question is, since my door posts look a little rough, would I be bette off getting them rechromed or going with reproductions. Anyone here bought a pair of the repops? How was the quality? Recent cost for rechroming a set?

Original rechrome will fit correctly. I have never done it my self , but read about repop fitment problems a number of years back.

I recommend rechrome. Just make sure they don't over do it with too much copper thickness at the joints for the stainless garnish moldings.

If they do, you will be grinding them to get the mouldings to fit.

Rich just called me, and informed me that I was addressing windshield posts instead of door posts........Sorry. Thank you Rich.

I agree with his post above on rechrome, and would add that you should make sure that you use a plating shop that has experience with these parts. They are pot metal, and very tricky to do correctly. I have used the reproduction posts (one time), and they seemed to be built very well, supposedly the molds were made from an original post. You should know however, that the reproductions are for 56-62 (one size fits all). There are some differences in the original posts with the tops, and front surface (62 is SMOOTH), and the reproductions may not pass judging, if you are going that route. The molded ends on the rubber weatherstripping is also different to fit a specific year.

Thanks for the input Mike. On the one set of repops that used, did they fit fairly well? I know all too well the difficulty finding a shop that is good with pot metal parts, that's one reason I was considering the reproductions. I'm no concerned with judging at all, and if 62 is the only year that had the serrations, it would seem I already have 62 posts on my car

Yes they did fit well, but I was doing restomods, so the style didn't matter. I posted some bad information in my reply that I'd like to clarify. The reproduction posts are made in the style of the 59 to 61 (IIRC). The reproductions are serrated, and THE 62 was the only year that was SMOOTH on the front, without serrations. Sorry about that. Here are a couple of links to past threads about the differences.
