If that was my car, its a no brainer, I would put it back togther (myself) and it would be below $10,000

Holy smokes…..what a more than serious hit. It appears to not take much to cause major damage on these cars. One can only surmise how this happened.
Looking from the side in the second pic the Prius doesn’t appear to be seriously damaged. I had thought the damage done on the ‘67 would come in around 25-30K to fix. Seems that figure is low.

Good for you!

I gaurantee your PM parts cost alone which include the front clip and BB hood, motors, modules, 10K+ not including Paint.....

That is ugly. Hurts my eyes just looking at it. Hope everyone is OK.
Any idea how it happened. Looks like the 67 didn't brake and drove into rear of another car.
What a shame

Used parts, paint myself, working with fiberglass is easier than welding banging metal panels, just have to be finicky and make parts fit correctly. I would guess all the motors, switches, wiring and core support are all re-usable. don't expect there is any frame damage, just the plastic dust cover is damaged
Only real bummer is the grill and bumpers, Its been pointed out the repop bumpers are not as good as they used to be

Didn’t use to be.

What a sad day in Corvette land. I hope the driver is okay. A lap belt by itself won’t keep your face off the steering wheel.

Me too, I have a silver big block with side pipes and a black top. The photo makes the hair on the back of my neck stand tall. And then, all the **** I get for not driving my car much....

When you zoom in it looks like the hood pins are still in the female latches..

WOW, that makes me pucker also! I think about it all the time in any of my old cars, but still drive them anyway.

Sidebar: This particularly hits home even harder as I never had any accident of this sort before this last holiday break. Similar scenario driving my beautiful, low mileage 5-speed 97 Jeep TJ Sahara, front to rear direct shot. Worst case scenario w/ several car lengths of space on a commercial road with many lights where newer SUV w/ABS in front (& supposedly the car in front of them panic braked & stopped on a dime) We were only 35-40 mph, in fresh wet, rainy conditions & me w/ no ABS or even time to pump. I had to make the split decision to swerve or shut it down as much as possible and hit square but hard. Everyone was fine & both drivable. First chargeable accident as I have NEVER done that before and thought it wouldn't (very naively I might add). Finally going in for repair next week.

I would be shocked if there is no frame damage. It may be minor (or not) but the body is still going to have to come off.

The body is so messed up because the hit was above the bumper attachment points to the frame so they smushed up and into the body crushing the nose and shoving the hood back

Removing the body can be fun

My one experience with ABS was on our Lincoln Town Car. Flowing traffic on a 5 lane section of interstate starts slowing. Gal in front of me, plenty of distance as all are slowing, decides to abruptly come to a complete stop. No car immediately in front of her. I’m hard on the brakes, but adequate room to stop. Suddenly ABS kicks in and feels like I had 1/2 the stopping power. Rolled right up to her bumper and just barely touched it. There was no damage to my car and neither I nor the police she insisted on calling could see damage on her car. But, I got ticketed. Insurance paid $750 to repair her bumper including the cost for 3 days car rental! I paid much more in fines and traffic school for my first ever chargeable accident in over 60 years driving. Thank you ABS .

Had a similar situation with one of my daughters years back. Tried to say it was the fault of the car in front because they stopped fast. Nope - it's HER fault for following too close.

"But they...."
"Did you hit them?"
"Well, yes but - "
"Then it's YOUR fault. Period."

You can never, ever prevail when you rear end someone unless you were rear ended and sent into the car in front. My policy with my regular cars is always to stay far enough away to have a way out. Always. The more idiotic the driver in front seems, the farther back I am.

I no longer drive my best antiques on busy roads or interstates, and never in urban areas. I'm blessed to have access to Connecticut tobacco roads and never need a busy road to get home. Cell phones are game changers, and it is not just kids. Morons our own age are looking at their phones as they drive. You can see them up ahead drifting along. I feel bad for those of you who have to navigate busy roads to use your cars. When I have no choice, I get out my beater 68 New Yorker. Let a Prius stop short in front of me or stare at his phone behind me....

That car isn't totaled unless it's under-insured. Still hurts to look at it, though. And, yeah, it's gonna cost well into five figures to repair it correctly, and the downtime will be large.

Live well,

SJW

If responding to my post: No argument. My fault entirely. I should have included the “punch line” Get out away from traffic and test your ABS system. You need to be aware that stopping distance is increased (dry or reasonably dry pavement). You don’t want to learn as I did.

Best thing that ever happened to my 92 jag xjs was the abs quit working. It was terrible!! Really scary. I know how to pump brakes and prefer being in control
