Default upper steering column issue

Reassembling after frame off and have one or two issues with the upper steering column, non telescoping. The horn ring pictured below seems to keep popping out slightly of the directional signal assembly where the 2 shorter tabs are located. These 2 tabs appear to have a raised area on the tab, which I assume engage inside their slots in the directional signal assembly, but they don't stay put. This causes the horn to blow then you pull up or down on the steering wheel. The directional signal assembly and the ring are not new, so they might be worn out enough to cause this issue. I cannot find the ring on topflight, corvette central or zip, but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place. Issue 2 is there appears to be a larger than expected gap between the steering hub and column. I don't remember what this looked like when I disassembled, but I got it now. The hub appears to be shouldered to imply in engages the column. Maybe the steering shaft is too far out? Any help would be appreciated.

Bill

Bend the tabs on the ring slightly so there’s more tension on them when you put them in the slots.
The gap at the hub is due to the shaft needing to be seated further into the rag joint or the column needing to be unclamped and slid inward. Your choice.
