Hi, I am going to repair the fibreglass floor console around the floor shifter plate on the driver's side. It was repaired many years ago from different transmission swaps. The plate is in the correct location so I know it is situated correctly.. The original pieces that were left were repaired but I noticed the floor shifter plate installed almost hangs off the edge on the left lower corner. Does anyone have measurements as to how much room there is between the plate and the actual bend in the console where it drops off. Is there a template on line where I could get the info I need? I want to pull the carpet up and reconstruct the drivers edge to be more defined. Thanks.
Mine 1960 is all stock in that area and the cover does hang off a little on the lower left corner. Here are a couple of pictures with and without carpet. Pay no attention to the aluminum access door for the shifter. The plywood was just there to protect the glass floor. The corner is just out in the air, the tiniest bit. Don't know if that is correct, but it is how it is.
O.K. Well maybe mine is correct. The console cover was mostly intact but broken up for different transmissions.Shop that did the body work on the car years ago reglassed it back. Mine looks just like yours so maybe I am O. K..I thought it looked a little goofy hanging over the edge a bit and was going to add a bit of the corner so the plate did not look so odd. I took a few photos but my computer that has been in the shop for a month to get repaired and give it an enema. Brought it home yesterday and it will not start up. S200.00 repair job going back to the computer shop tomorrow. As soon as I get it back I will post my photos. If the console is correct next item will be pulling hood and repair the hood hinge dog bones that bounce around in the hood. Time to make that right. Thank you for your replies.
Hi Just got my computer back. Here is my console plate. Same as others posted so no issue i guess. Here is mine. Thought mine was not correct. I can now install boot and console back as it should be.
O.K. On to the next project. Need to repair the hood dogbones and then attempt to close the hood properly. Has been ajar for many years and afraid if I close it I will not be able to open it again. Can I install trip wire for each side of the latches that I can yank on if I get it stuck closed?
