I would never pull that engine unless I had the one to march my vin. An then I'd have to think about it.
If you talked with the owner of that engine’s real car, he might be able to change your mind. There’s lots of wrong ‘63 engines out there if someone way overpays you.
Consider posting your engine photos with the VIN showing in the ORHAN VIN stamped parts thread in the C1/2 Sticky section for the heck of it.
I remember looking at quite a few C2 cars in the Mid 70's looking for a Corvette to buy... Ended up with a C3 but thats another story...
EVERY big block car I drove had a small block engine in it.. blown up was the answer I always got when I asked where the Original motor was... Amazes me today how many are " original" engines......
Over the course of 60+ years, the possibilities for what might have happened to each of these antiques are limited only by your imagination. And, details can become fuzzy or misremembered by the people who once knew them.
Example of them going fuzzy: The engine block in my '63 came out of the car that came off the line in St Louis 21 units ahead of mine. It was originally a 250HP. I've met with the previous owner who found the engine, rebuilt it as a 340HP, and installed it in the car 40+ years ago. He remembers a lot of things about the car's history, but couldn't recall where he located the block. Memories tend to fade.
I'd be happy to reunite this engine with the owner of the car it came from, if I ever install a Blueprint crate engine in mine as I've been considering.
No, what a coincidence. Same colors, both wrong engine but this one 2 owner car. The other one at least 3 owner. I don't remember if the other was 340hp or not. But glad I got this one.
The gentleman I purchased it from said it was early and said different mirror, gas cap latch 60# oil gauge insteadof 80, alarm when red lined at 6500 amongst other things.
Early cars had the 69# gauge. I would say that is correct.
60 # gauge, dumb thumb,

Yes that is quite a coincidence for sure.. Beautiful car Congrats.
Yep, I have it down as being a Silver/Saddle 340 4spd Coupe with pw and leather that I think I recorded many moons ago.
Zano, out of curiosity would you know what the casting date is for your 15,407 RF block?
It would be an the passenger side upper back of the block.
Yes, I recorded that car as being a 340 RE at the time but it might have originally been a FI RF as your block indicates
I bet the original car has a re stamped 340 in it….what a surprise to find the original engine……if they can get reunited..
I have located handful of original engines and tried to reunite them with the original cars. Unfortunately, it has only worked on one occasion. Owners either didn’t care, or were not willing to pay the money or logistics simply didn’t work…..
I went back up and looked the number on that side is going to be tough to get unless I take some parts off. It would be very interesting just to see what went on and how this motor got lost
