Default 63 wrong engine

I purchased a beautiful swc . The owner had it for 55 years. It's a 340hp. He told me the original engine blew before he got it and the original owner said it was out of warranty so they replaced it with another engine with 0 miles on it. But numbers don't match. I took pictures today the last 2 letters are rf. That means they replaced it with a fuel injection engine. But there basically the same as the 340 hp. Correct? Thanks Zane

I messed up and parked it under another car. Can't get the hood high enough to latch and take good pictures

and weather is to bad to put in a different bay.

That Vin does not come up in the 63 Corvette registry.......BUT that does not mean anything! I would guess an October 62 Build Month approxamately.........

Default Engine

You have an early car made in 62. The engine is from a May, 1963 car.

I'm confused. A replacement engine should not have another cars VIN stamped on the pad. The pad would be blank, just broach marks or a CE block. CE was for warranty replacement. Just can't recall when the CE started.

I think it was and still is illegal for a dealer to stamp a pad.

The gentleman I purchased it from said it was early and said different mirror, gas cap latch 60# oil gauge insteadof 80, alarm when red lined at 6500 amongst other things.

The "S" is proper. It signifies the car was assembled in St. Louis.

'63 Coupe #15,407 is out there somewhere. I recorded it as a 340 hp but no mention that it was NOM.
Date code F0510 RF lines up well with that vin number. I'm not sure how your car ended up with the motor from #15,407.
What does your Trim Tag show? Does it's info line up with your #1,403 vin?

Your Trim Tag does line up with your 1,403 serial number.
Somehow after 55 + yrs the story of a warranty motor replacement got a bit skewered it seems.
If the engine you have is indeed original for car 15,407 then It might be worth a small bit to that cars owner, or not.

I would never pull that engine unless I had the one to march my vin. An then I'd have to think about it.

Perhaps 15,407 was stolen and its parts disbursed.

If these old cars could tell tales…
