I'm BAAAAACK! God Bless the USA!!!
Spring is in the air and I need help solving the sloppy steering problem on my Roadster. Haven't worked on the vette in nearly two years while I've been off serving my country. I suspect that either my steering column or my steering gear box my be the culpit. Are there any ways for me to determine exactly which component is defective and can I fix the problem myself or should I opt to have someone rebuild the defective component once I have identified the problem?

welcome back to the usa!!!!
recently had same complaint on my 79. Found out why, a bad lower control bushing. Ordered VBP's front monoleaf spring and lower control arms.installation went easy(thanks guys at VBP-great product),but still had slop afterwards. Finally replaced flexible coupling, bought at my local chevy dealer and had alignment done(about $100.00) and now she drives almost like new. Wanting to get 17" or 18' wheels, which I hear also helps the ride out...lots of posts on steering problems,do search and good luck.

Rob, welcome back and thanks for watching our back side! There is a ton of info for steering issues on this page, particularly Jim Shea's articles. I'm sure you will find the answer you are looking for.

Welcome back and thanks for your service to our wonderful country.
Get under the car while someone rocks the wheel back and forth and look for the play.
