Default 68 titled...body is?????

Hi All, Brand new to the site....I purchased a titled 68 t-top,327/350hp,4speed car but the body doesn't match what a 68 is supposed to be...It has a front clip that takes a steel bumper but has an opening behind the front wheel like a 73.....clearance lights are rectangulal instead of square...but all 4 tail lights are red with reverse lights down between exhaust and license plate....any ideas????

Without seeing a pic, it sounds like a 68 with 73 and up side vents.
Is the ignition on the dash or steering column?
How about the front parking lamps? are they round?
someone could have swapped the front clip, but like I said, hard to tell without a picture.

What you described is all 68 except the fender vents. 68 and 69 had four vertical louvers. The rear-most louver was blocked off and the other three passed through to the engine compartment.

These are all of my 68.

There should be wiper door.....sounds like this car was modded or was involved in an accident and some previous owner replaced body panels to his likeing, not to what was orginal to the car.

The G25 shows a body build "date" of March 25. According to your VIN, 12,032, your car should have been built in Feb. of 68.

I find NO listing in 68 showing TRIM 400 or PAINT 975.

PAINT 975 is listed as Marlboro Maroon in 1970.
TRIM 400 is listed as Black Vinyl, also again in 1970. ???? Chuck

uh oh...I don't see where either the interior color code or the exterior color code matches a 1968 Corvette

Sounds like a front clip was grafted on? But what about the bumper...

sure it isnt a clip from a 70 without the steel screen over the fender vent? they did away with wiper doors for 70 right? it of course has a steel front bumper, and the paint codes match a 70..

would the 70 fender vent look like a 73 if it didn't have the grill in it...there are no holes to mount anything except 3 small holes above the vent........this car has been setting under a tree for the last 7 years, was stripped of all outer pieces/trim for paint...then the guy that was doing it got busted for drugs...cops took everything.....released the vette cause owner had title but kept all parts that were taken off. That's where I came in.....he approached me and asked if i was interested in trading my MR2's for it....didn't want to seem too anxious..said i would get back with him.....H**L Yes i traded ...but car seems to be a lot of wrong year pieces.....lots of work to do...
Thanks for all info you can help with....carnutt94....confused 68 vette
.......vette with a lot of history/drama...if only it could tell me the story

How about the bottom of the rear of the front wheel openings??? Do they have that "small flare"??? '68/'69 DID NOT have this little "flare". Look at the lower back of the opening of the rear wheels. It should not have those "small flares" unless this area was modified. If your front does, with that tag you mentioned, it most likely is a 1970 front clip.

Have you checked the numbers on the engine block to see where IT came from?

From reading above, it sure sounds '70, with a a '73 hood and fenders. I guess the steel bumper brackets could be original and the fenders were modified to fit the front?

for 1968 isn't G = Feb? A= August. Anyway, from 68 registry,
11780 = G20, 12709 = G29 so your #12032 could fit right in as a G25. but not really relevant if the paint and trim aren't 1968 codes.

I went by the Black Book, which says Sept is the first month of production Maybe other sources say August. I'll double check.

BUT, as you say, the codes aren't 68 codes. Chuck
