Default what Engine

I just picked up another vette its a 68 coupe but it does'nt have the original engine in it. I'm trying to figure out what engine it had in it. Is there any way to tell, it has a tach that redlines at 6000 if thats any help. Thanks

How do you know the engine is not original to the car?

Would help if you gave the engine suffix number off the engine pad
