That's what I'm building...
actually I know it from being a building inspector-it just happens to be on the paper. it is something I call as a problem several times a week. in fact just a couple weeks back I found the problem in someones bonus room they finished themselves and where the furnace flue was going up through the roof in the kneewall access,the paper backing was charred. a housefire waiting to happen. anyone that has their paper facing exposed I URGE you to turn it the other way or cover with sheetrock/paneling. I see this problem alot and I would be doing a disservice by not passing the info along.

Looks a lot like detonation, in either case the piston crown did seriously overheat, weakening the top ring land and then it gave way, it is very very common for that to happen due to detonation or serious lean conditions I could show you a couple of pics that show exactly the same thing.
