just got an e-mail from Eckler's re: new products. one of the items is part number 46579, a JVC AM/FM CD player built in to a custom bezel for a 78-80 vette (similar stereos/bezels available for other year C3's). $479.99. pricey, I know, but i'm having problems finding a CD player for my 79 i'd be happy with. either it will require me to drill/cut my own bezel or it's underpowered, or perhaps of low quality, etc.
does anyone have any experience with this unit (or similar JVC units)? it looks like a pretty clean install. also comes with cd changer controller and wireless remote. any input from forum members is appreciated.
If you're at all picky about car stereo, and it sounds like you are, then I'd stay away from those pre-installed setups. A couple of buddys helped me put an Alpine 9851 CD head into my 80 last weekend. It did of course require cutting the bezel, but that's easily done with a Dremel and mine turned out great. If you don't want to cut your stock bezel then probably your best bet is to buy a bezel pre-cut for a standard DIN stereo and pick up the head unit separately. That way you're not being force-fed a head unit you don't care for and you're not cutting your original dash.
