Finished Spreader Bar, well almost. I need to get two nuts and two 1/2" stainless allen head cap screws. so that I can put it together.
More Pics on my corvette photos gallery...
Looks great. I like the U channel you used ... looks strong.
One question: I notice you placed the bar centered over the
front control arm stud. Any reason ? I was going to fab mine
with the bar more rear-ward to distribute the force to both studs.
Of course, the bar running front-rear would need to be suffiiciently strong to not flex.
The U channel should be as strong as 0.250 bar and a bit less hefty.
There is not much room to move the bar back between the studs. I have about 3/4 inches clearace to the belts. I used a gusset back to half way between the studs and that just clears. I had to relocate my alternator mount upward and still had to clearnace the bracket on the alternator side.
I still need to bore out a 1" nut on the lathe, split it and weld it to the shaft to have something to turn the shaft with.
This might be a silly question but why would you want to weld a nut on it to be able to adjust it? It seems that when you put it on and adjust it for tension you would leave it there.

I suppose a pipe wrench, or vice grips would work to hold the shaft whilst tightning the lock nuts but they mar the metal so...
I may still drill and saftey wire to keep things from moving when I dont want them to.
I preloaded it in compression to counter the force that I expect to be there during braking or cornering on that superspeedway...

seems they do it a little different up north, might be due to the long cold weather.
1971 Corvette are you trying to say Brain Freeze lol.
But really I would just load it and get the bolts tite and leave it. As it is not something that moves.
Yeah - but anybody who has adjustable rear strut rods knows that they
can work loose. You gotta CRANK those lock nuts solid.
Thus, the big nut to pull against.
I didn't notice the gussets in the back ... I think you've convinced me.
Nice job

We’ve got the jam nuts and possibly the Allen head cap screws on the shelf. You would need to call and ask a tech Gary or Robin to be sure… You’re setup looks very good…
