Simple question...what is the best place to get an L-88 hood for my 72 Stingray (I need the short style one)...preferably with the intake ducts, though they're not absolutely necessary. Thanks in advance
I bought an L88 hood from Corvette America, the hood itself fit just fine, but the rise of the scoop wasn't tall enough for the new motor. I ordered just the scoop from Mr. Goodglass of Florida and it is perfect. It was only $75 and with a little quality fiberglass work from a local body shop it works great.
hope that helps.
Jerry
I bought mine from Ecklers during one of their 10 percent off everything sales. I drove down and picked it up to avoid the shipping charges.
Hood fit perfectly. We had it on the car in about 30 minutes or less.
Hmmm...thing is, I've heard a lot of bad reports on Eckler's I've had very good experience with Mid America actually, and they seem to have the hood for a good price ($599.99)...anyone had experience with how it fits?
I purchased mine fromn Vanacor w/ Zero fit/finish problems. It's pretty much a crap shoot w/ ANY manufactor. I have heard horror stories from Ecklers, Mid-America, Vanacor, Zip, etc

Holy crap! Just checked Vanacor's site and they're offering the L-88 short style at $425...huge bargain compared to Mid America's $599.99 It is an exact original L-88 replica, right?

Exact repo, I have the L88 hood as well as several members here. I was impressed w/ the quality.
I guess it really is just like Corey said, it's a crapshoot as far as vendors go...I searched for threads about Vanacor and found numerous good/excellent reports and only one or two bad ones...so I'm go gonna with them July 7th I get my paycheck, July 7th I place my order
I would suggest you give Gary Gruhala a call. A terrific guy to do business with. Got my Ecklers hood from him and saved 50 dollars or so. Just Google Gruhala enterprises for the phone number.
All the talk here about where to buy a hood and no one is mentioning about how the hood is made. GM hoods are press molded fiberglass hoods. Are these companys offering a press molded hood at the prices quoted or a hand laid fiberglass hood which is a cheaper hood to manufacture. Hand laid fiberglass has a rough underbelly where a press molded hood is smooth. Therefore press molded hoods are more expensive. I have had both over the years and prefer press molded over hand laid fiberglass.
