"What? You've modified it? Oh no, you've completely destroyed the value of it!"
Usually followed by something like "My brother-in-law has an original unrestored 68 Mustang he's keeping to pay for his kid's college--now that's a rare car, don'tcha know!"
On the ride up to CF Cruise-In with 427Hotrod everytime we stopped for gas some guy would tell Jim he used to own one just like it.Maybe that"s why 67's are so cheap...everyone owned one.
LOL! Was at a show on the 4th and my brother and I overheard two guys talking about a 68 (smallblock / convertible) they were looking at. First guys said: "That sure is a nice looking Vette, but too bad it's not a stingray." Second guy said: " Yeah, then it would've had the 454 too."
We both just walked by trying not to laugh too loud...
when i started to do all the body work on the car 2 years ago in the driveway in a typical city block, i had red krylon primer sprayed on it.... alot of people that walked by said "damn that's alot of rust you have there"...... i asked if they wanted to help sand and fill.......
"My brother-in-laws sisters stepfathers uncle had a 74. It had the aluminum body with the 454 6-pack 5-speed sidepipes and it was all stock with 300 miles on it. He bought it brand new and stored it in a bubble until somebody offered him $3,000,000,000 for it and he had to sell it...."

That sound resonable for a stock low mile aluminum body 74 Corvette.
I was at a car show several years back when one of the "more knowlegable" spectators was looking underneath my car and said to his friend "see there is no rear axel, this was one of the experimental front wheel drive Vettes"

I do just the opposite and try to laugh too loud...
I drove my 10 year old step son to school in the '71 convertible this spring.
Heard from kid 1: "Wow! Look at that car!"
Kid 2: "Yeah, that's a Shelby!"
Sure, he got it wrong, but I was a little impressed he'd heard of a Shelby. I assume he was thinking Cobra.
This is the most common one ive heard bet that guy is hung like a fruit fly i hope the mod doesnt get mad at me for this one being it may offend some people but it is urban legends isnt it ? so you all know my licence plate says HNGDNKY that should say it all !
This is fact, I was there to witness. The fellow who built the bottom end of my pontiac motor, had I believe a 76 sitting in the garage. This thing was almost mint, he bought it for 3500.00. Bought it off of a gentlemen who saw the rust on the radiator housing. He was told by his friend that it was made of fiberglass and it wasn't rust but rott and underneath the the paint the body was rotted just as bad and he needed to dump it fast so 3,500.00 later my mechanic had it. He offered to sell it to me for 5,500.00, however I did not have the money. Again a believer in the, corvettes are nothing but fiberglass.
