In my haste, I wrote GTX.

I meant to write GSX.

The trick to finding sponsors is to have an answer for the question "What's in it for me?". The answer: advertising.

When you contact vendors, don't ask for a handout, ask them to act as sponsors.
Request parts donations or deep discounts.
In return, offer advertising of their business as a sponsor of the OK.A. Vette restoration project.

Your adveritising can be in the form of a website that documents the process of redoing the Vette. Updates on corvetteforum.com. And
Their name on all posters associated with the project. Their name will be mentioned x times at the final auction/draw of the Vette.

Check pricing on a 1/4 page newspaper add in your area and suggest a donation of parts that is comparable. Suggest that the sponsorship will hit a more targeted audience. All the people at the final draw are interested in Vettes. Get a hit counter to demonstrate to your sponsors that the advertising is getting their name out. All the people checking the Website are interested in Vettes. Have links to the sponsors.

At some point the car should be entered into an Oklahoma car show.
With the sponsors names clearly posted. That's worth a couple $.

Figure out what parts you need and then go after specific sponsors.
Try and find non-competing sponsors for different parts of the car.
ie: Brakes, engine, suspension, sound system, etc.

You don't have to do all of this, the students can do some too. Some of them may end up owning the garage someday and learning how to attract sponsors is pretty similar to attracting customers. Some of them may be cracker jack website managers that can take that task and run with it.

DING DING DING! We have a winner!
The hood is off a 1970 Buick GSX. Our other project is a 1972 GSX Stage 1 (of course it is a clone, since there were only 48 built that year). It has a built Stage 1 455. The kids like it almost as much as the Vette!

Thanks for posting the updates. Looks like a class I would have LOVED to enroll in.

I was going to guess an olds.... Olds, Buick - pretty close!

The front end we have is missing the piece that goes from fender to fender along the top of the cowl. Does anyone make this piece so we can 'glass it in?

This is clearly enroute to being the "post of the year"

High School vocational students restoring a Stingray. I dont know if it gets much more of a "feel-good" movie than that.

for the women - they call them "chick flicks"

Would this be the makings of a "man flick?"

Norval would get the role as the "Shop Teacher"

It is part of the hood surround. Your best bet is to salvage that piece from another Corvette. Good Luck.

Cool - 1972 Buick Skylark (GSX with a 350 and bench seat) was my very first car.
I still see some from time to time driving around.

I just spoke with the owner of the company that manufactures the fiberglass we carry. I explained the project and how it was going to be used to generate money for the school. I got him to agree to sell you a front clip for below what we even pay as a dealer. If you dont want a complete nose he will supply the parts you need. These guys are the number manufacture of original press molded glass. There company number is 800.550.1200. Ask for Jerry. Tell him that you were refered by Scott at corvetteworx.

Regards,
Corvetteworx

Corvetteworx,
What a nice gesture, not only at the holiday but at any time of the year. It's nice, periodically, to see a vendor who benefits from the hobby, give something back. It makes the statement that you're in it for more than just the money and that is a welcome sentiment. Thank you!!!

Have you seen the pics of the kids fixing the front end? We are kind of stuck right now for several reasons.

1- We don't have the 'glass strip that goes across the top of the cowl that connects the two fenders. Until we have this, or another alternative, there is little else we can do. We also do not have the funding to go out and buy a core support, all the bracketry, etc., for the engine compartment.
2- We are finishing a previous project (72 GSX) that will help fund the 'Vette project when it is auctioned off. We are a small, self-funded high school and do not have the means that a large public school would. Until the other project is auctioned off we simply do not have the money to go full bore on the 'Vette.
3- We also do customer cars, trucks, tractors and whatever else they bring us. We offer affordable paint service and repair for the community, so we are a busy bunch.

We have big plans for the 'Vette. It will be a Baldwin-Motion replica w/a built small block 350, t400 and all the trimmings. It will have a saddle interior and will be Brandshatch green with gold Motion stripes, side pipes, Big block hood, Coke bottle mags and the works. We are very excited about it.

We certainly appreciate all the support and encouragement, especially from those who followed through on their donations of parts. Others have used this forum to try to sell us things above market value. There are all kinds I suppose.

Things are just creeping along right now until we get that piece for the front end. So far nobody has even said that one is available anywhere. The boys will finish the clip when we get this piece.

God bless,
Fred
