What a FIND
This was purchases by a doctor brand new and kept in his garage with a car cover over it. It still has the factory original tires with the nobby things still there. It is in perfect condition. He charged the battery and drove it around the block and it runs perfectly.
What is a car like this worth...could it be auctioned on the Barret-Jackson?
Actually, it's worth whatever he can get for it. A lot of people out there would love to have a car that is that original, with that low of mileage. Depending on how long he wanted to wait for the right seller, he could probably get $30k or even more.

I am trying to research the car due to the fact he has asked me to help him sell it. He is an older Dr. that I work with and doesn't have any computer/internet skills.
I am ignorant to vettes and there value. I was impressed to see such a car....... I have always heard of people that has bought cars and put them up before but never thought I would see one.
The reason he has decided to sell it is because he had a scare. His wifes Ford expedition caught on fire just outside of his garage and brought to lite the fact that the car would not have been covered if his house was to have caught on fire and destroyed the car. Soooo now he has decided to sell it and get what he canfor it.

There seems to be quite a few low mileage '78 pace cars out there and they are not that expensive

I hope he is thoroughly investigating the cause of this fire and pursuing a claim against Ford, especially if the fire was caused by a faulty brake/cruise control switch.
here is just one example: An internet search will turn up many similar stories..

A Ford Expedition, not on a recall list, is being blamed for a fire in the garage of an Orange County home on Monday. The owners said they heard a noise before the vehicle caught fire at their home on Bounce Drive in east Orange County. Investigators say the cause was a switch on top of the master cylinder connected to the vehicle's cruise control. It is the same switch that forced Ford to recall thousands of other vehicles. Ford is sending an investigator to check out the damaged vehicle and determine what happened. Firefighters removed the SUV from Mark Vanscoter's garage and kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the house. No one was injured.

This was the 25th anniversary for the Corvette and Chevrolet introduced the most extensively redesigned Corvette since 1968. 25th Anniversary emblems appeared on the 1978 Corvette. The Corvette was honored as the Pace Car for the 1978 Indy 500 and to commemorate the event, Chevrolet built limited edition Corvettes with their own VIN number sequence. The Wall Street Journal ran a front page article about the 1978 Indy Pace Cars, indicating they would be an excellent investment.

All is far in love, war and used car buying.
Seems like much of America has forgotten the middle part.
Maybe if you have more cash then you know what to do with, or sold it at BJ, but real world price for those of us that don't IMO would be around 15K.
I think a nice 68-72 would be more desirable for the prices quoted before. That's just my opinon.
Average Price
1978 Silver Anniversary $ 12,600
1978 Pace Car $ 18,100
Low miles might add a little to it, but not much. Even the "Blue Books" have a point that low mileage does count after a certain price.

I am going to go over to his place and take pictures of the car and get the VIN# and all the details about the car. He said he even has some trophies from a car show he had it in.
Thanks again for your help.
I am leaning towards listing it on ebay and just see what happens.
and as for the question that I am sure is on everybodies mind....
YES I would die to have this car, but.....I can't even come close to affording it. He told he was offered $25,000 for it in the past but was not willing to part with it at that time.
