Took a Saturday off this past weekend and DROVE over to the west coast (of Florida). Venice Beach to be exact. It's a 3 hour ride and I gotta say I was lovin' it. Cruised over with 3 other Vettes (a C4, C5, & C6) and I led the way. My speedo is not accurate (shows much faster than actual) but I was told we were doing 80-85mph most of the way and I was taching at 2600-2800 rpms with 4.11 gears. The car wasn't even working hard, it was just "humming" away with no mufflers in the sidepipes, water & oil temp never over 180* and tranny at 190*, top down and a full tank (part of the time )...WHAT MORE CAN I ASK FOR !!!!!
I don't think you can do it alone with a speedo gear. With 4.11's and the slowest gear/ the one with the most teeth still wasn't right. I ended up with a inline gear reducer. The type use on 4 x 4's with big tires only running it backwards. After slowing the speedo down with this reducer I could fine tune with gearing.
