Ok….. Not to sound stupid but, how do you know what mpg you are getting?
1. Start with a full tank
2. Set the trip odometer to 0
3. Drive around until you need gas (no particular destination is OK)
4. Fill er up
5. How many Gallons did it take?
6. Look at the odometer
7. How many miles did you go?
8. Miles divided by gallons = MPG
EG: 300 miles / 15 Gallons = 20 MPG
but only if I coast a lot and it's mostly downhill...

I have the stock 350 CSB in my 76. It has an Edelbrock Performer carb on a Professional Products Cylone Plus intake and a Crane Cam (262 int./268 exh; 0.446 int./0.459 exh. lift), March underdrive pulleys; top rebuild with big valves.
I'm running a 383...350 gears. 15 mph while pulling some hills in No. Arkansas. Hope to get close to 20 on the Xpressway. Larry

Thanks, now I'm going to go out and find out what my Vettes mpg is.
Take a look at my list. hose are actual figures from tank to tank.
If I did it that way then I choose 31 mpg. Doing a single tank of gas is really loose on being accurate.
This method also requires an accurate speedo and with non 70 series tires its off something. I don't know how much? Any solid numbers on that?
I'm getting about 14.6 on average, and I use software to keep track of it (called Automotive Wolf). I don't have a lot of data to generate a "decent" average, but for some reason I get the feeling the value is low.
A Keisler 5 or 6 speed would sure help with mileage!
A Keisler 5 or 6 speed would sure help with mileage!
A 25% increase in mileage ads up fast at $3.00 / gallon!
You'd have to buy gas at $2.25 (25% less) to have the same Miles Per Dollar (MP$) with a 4 speed!
... so if you are saving an equivalent of 75 cents per gallon, a $2,995 TKO600 would pay for itself in 4000 miles That would be a good way to explain it to your wife. You're saving money by buying a Keisler 5 speed! If you drive enough you could save enough to retire or buy a really nice crate motor

Were you at Carlisle? I remember seeing a 5-speed someone was selling.
I get 12-14 around town & 16-18 cruising. It went up after I installed the TKO-600 from Chevy 5 speed. Running a 454 W/3.70 rear. Using an Edelboock Performer 750. Switched to a speed demom 750 double pumper & the mileage went down 20%..., but the performace was much better.
