The good thing about Mopars? When I was tearing up the streets in N.Y in the early 70's with my Solid lifter '68 427 SS Camaro is I had more cars to whoop on. There weren't many fast Fords then.

[QUOTE=gearheaddroppings]I personally love them. I thank that the 1970 Challenger is one of my favorite muscle cars QUOTE]

Had a '70 340ci Challenger back in '72 when I was 20. Stock 10:1 compression, Edelbrock, Holly, Crane, & Hooker. That "Plumb Crazy" car & me took down many a small block Camaros & Firebirds back then. Even a few 396's. Spun those L-60 rear tires with ease. Still love old Mopars...but adore Vette's more!!!
Wish I had a scanner cause I still have pics of that car.

Vettes were always my faves, but I couldn't afford one back in the late 60's and early 70's (Yeah, my beard is gray). I've owned a 67 Charger 383, a 69 Charger R/T 440 and (sob) a 70 Hemi Roadrunner. Great cars and cheap at the time for what they were. I wish I'd kept them all. But hindsight is 20-20.

My first car was a 70 Challenger RT "U" code 440 car Plum crazy purple.
I did mega work on that car originally auto then changed it to standard, and it was pretty fast. Fenders flapping over 120MPH. LOL "Also I remember a ZR1 kicking my A$$ one time in 89."
Anyways They Sound like tin. They run like tin and the look like tin!!!
I spent more money on that money pit than anything in my life, and back in 1990 I couldn't give the freakin thing away. I finally sold it. and then bought a nice 80 Z28 (should have kept that car) after that a 72 Monte, then an 86 GTV6 Alfa then an 85 Mustang GT... I did buy another Camaro though an 81 Z28 350 4sp car which I still have.

Now I'm my garage a 73 Vette a 935 Porchse and an 81 Z28..

After all these cars the Vette and the Camaro were top in my list.
Build quality and handling.
Just a month ago I was about to do a heads up swap with a 74 Challenger Ralleye with a 360 in it. Nice looking car but stock for stock the 73 Vette roasts it. and it re-stablished my reason for selling my Challenger in the first place. Not too long ago I was going to trade for a 69 GTO...

Long story short I couldn't do it! I'm too attached to my 73 Vette, it has done me no wrong, and she will stay for good. The look of the Corvette in general is more appealing to the eye. They 'Handle Ten times better than most Mopars or anything else out there.
I'm flabercasted by the price these Mopars are fecthing. They are pretty nice looking but after seeing a 70 Hemi Cuda coupe go for $305000.00 US on Barret Jackson tonight re-inforces my justification with that type of money to buy a 66 427 Vette a 69 427 vette and a 2006 427 Vette.. and I'll be happy LOL

I appreciate MOPAR's for the powerful vehicles that they are, but The only ones I have ever found even remotely attractive are the '68 & '69 Chargers. And for the record, it has nothing to do with the Dukes of Hazzard. I just don't think that the rest of the entire line of the 60s and 70s muscle cars they offered were very attractive vehicles.

My first car was a '68 Charger R/T with a 440. It had 89k original miles and I paid all of $600 for it in '77.

I grew up with a 1968 Road Runner 383 Factory 4-speed. My mom and Dad bought new in our home town. My mom still owns the car. I have talked her into letting me have it to restore and take on the power tour in 2007 or 2008. My next project when the vette is done this year. Well not really done but! LOL
I love the Road Runner it's what got me into cars to begin with.

Default Cuda', etc.

I remember my neighbor's dark green '71 'Cuda when I was in high school. They did a nice job styling those but remember the interior didn't hold up very well, can't believe the run up on these but I guess a lot of them didn't survive. I know of a shop that is doing a complete makeover of a rare one that will easily bring 6-figures once its done. You won't see any Z-28's of the same age doing that for quite awhile (although some COPO's have gotten close to it), makes you wonder if being featured on TV helped at all (Don Johnson's second series Nash Bridges)

Although I am partial to Corvettes I love almost all of the muscle cars from the 60's and early 70's.

I will say this though, it was SOOOOOOOO easy changing plugs on my friend's Hemi Charger.

Back when I was in High School, we all had Mopars. I had a 71 Chrysler Royal, my buddies had Polaras',Road Runners,Cuda's, GTX's, and a Belvedere - We called our area of the parking lot "Mopar Row".

Since HS, I've owned Chevy's, Fords (trucks) and now.. The Wife and I just traded our Fords in for Dodges. I'm driving a Ram 1500 Quad-Cab, and Luv'in it! It barely fits in the Garage (it sits ouside, cuz the Vette is in the garage)! The wife has the Dodge Grand Caravan (it's in the garage next to the vette).

We both got em in Dark Blue ( her's is Dk Blue Patriot pearl, mine is Midnight Blue)!

They were butt ugly but the mechanicals made great power. The only one I ever liked was the 1971 Challenger. I had a chance to buy one when I was 16-17 years old for $1500....a 440 6-pack My dad vetoed my decision...."you would kill yourself in it". The thing is he was probably right.

I like their trucks...or use to...the new Durango . I have an '01 Durango R/T, a '92 Dakota with a 425hp 360 with a 250 shot of nitrous if needed and a '00 Jeep...sort of a Mopar. Their muscle cars were nice but they havent built a bad *** car since the early seventies(excluding the Viper).

BlkBird, Take a test drive in the 2005 Magnum SRT9's 425HP and you'll change your mind. I know the 70's Hemi produced 425HP with a smaller displacement which makes them a better motor over all. Right now (as of today) I have a 2006 Charger Daytona R/T (will be in showrooms spring 2006) with the new Hemi 350 HP. A bit less HP than the SRT9, but much better on fuel milage. Right now there are 12 test cars with the Viper V10 engine been run through testing, and if everything meets the Gov. regulations, the public may ? see them in 2007. With that said, now for the Viper, it's fast once it gets above 2500 RPM. But, it's a handful to drive and you become tired just keeping it straight as it's handling needs big improvements. Any C3 will out corner it anytime, on an off ramp, so I can just imagine what the new 06 Vette will do. For example say ramp speed limit 50MPH, the C3 will corner that at 70 MPH where a Viper will not even corner at the 50MPH posted speed it will over corner and lean causing you to lift the pedal or drive out onto the grass. I get a new Chrysler company car every 3 months and have driven all of the line up at one time or another through the past years. By the way, I have my request in now for the new (old) 2007 Challenger which I'm sure will be a styling hit, just not sure power wise yet, as motor line up's have not been finialized for production.
