Printing on vinyl works for flat gauges. C3 gauges are all curved.
I've had my '81 for 10 years and never noticed. I had to go out and look at it to see what you were talking about. Looks like the face is flat, but the edges curve in at the sides. You could paint it all white then put printed vinyl over that, but I think the edges would be noticable.
I'm currently investigating costs of getting my own screen printing equipment... that way I can put whatever design I want on the gauges.
I think zwede's got the right idea. Why let someone else mess with your gauges? I'd much rather take my own gauges apart than trust someone I don't know who's trying to do it as fast as possible to make a profit.
Markus, if you find a place to do just your plates, please let us know. I'd really like to keep my factory plates since they are already designed to work with the car, but I really like the newer white look.
Mike: I found a place that has a hobby level (low volume) screen press setup for $250. Problem is they say screen presses can only do flat stock and that the curved edges of our gauges require a pad press that is $1300. But then why do all the shops that do instruments call it "screen pressing" or "silk screening" if they are using a pad press?
